Looking at buying a Third Gen 4Runner. Wondering what everyone favourite local shops are? I'll probably need a pre-purchase inspection, and I don't have a mechanic I trust.
Also, in case I need to deal with any of the dealers who's the Calgary favourite?

I heard Stampede Toyota is pretty good, ask for the tech "Victor" to work on your truck, I heard he's pretty good. :-D

Real subtle Victor... hahaha...
Welcome to the forum new guy. My suggestion would be to hit kijiji and see what is available in your price range, and then post the links up here for comments. If you ask nice, I'm sure some guys here will even go check out the vehicles with you once you narrow down your search.
In terms of dealers, Heninger Toyota has stepped to the plate and is a proud sponsor of our association. Scroll down through this link http://www.ct4wda.com/news/
Like all dealers, everyone has had different experiences there (good and bad), but it is a good place to start.
Good luck!

Thanks for the resonpnses guys! Wha about independent shops? Whatever I'm buying will be well out of warranty, so the dealership isn't really needed for most things.
I do plan on doing most of the work myself, but there's always something that's just past my comfort level.
Also, where would you reccomend for a pre-purchase inspection. I don't think a dealership is the right place for that.

Get crappy tire to do you pre-purchase inspection... They should run up a bill that'll be good for negotiating purposes...
I must say - with the new '90 4runner we got - there is something to be said for dealer servicing... Never seen a better running 22RE; and I'm really impressed seeing all these proper exhaust hangers in place, all the correct bolts and parts being used... Might not be a cheap way to go - but when they're maintained correctly and with all factory parts, there is a radical difference in performance/quality over the stuff you get from the aftermarket sometimes...
I'd give you my shop reccomendation - but he closed down, and now i'm trying to find a new shop to take care of those issues I hate dealing with myself...

I have to recommend S/C '03 taco. He's my backyard mechanic. Granted he is also a tech at Country Hills Toyota. He has always been really good to my truck (no matter how hard a time I make it for him).

Welcome! Do ask as many questions about your future Runner! Like the guys said, we have a few Toyota mechanics here and knowledgeable Toyota heads that can help you out!

I just had to bump your thread, I WOULD recommend a dealer look at any 4Runner you choose. Because they are familliar with that truck and know what to look out of and therefore able to make better judgement calls than say an indie or let alone Canadian Tire. I personally would not let those guys touch my vehicle unless it was a tire repair. With that said, if you have any questions. Feel free to PM me with any questions concerns you may have and I will point you in the direction you need to go with in getting a 3rd gen Runner.
