Ok all the Tech guys on this forum this ones for you.
when I turn the 4x4 button the light keeps flashing at me and 4x4 will not engage. I can hear the relay clinking on the passenger side, but the light does not go to solid and keep blinking. I haven't used 4x4 in a couple months and this was the first real snowy day that I was going to use it. This was just this morning so I have not had a chance to get under the truck to look around.
Just though I would throw it out there right now so I might have a chance to check it out tonight.
Thoughts? and is there anything I can check.
Richard.

Hey Richard,
Maybe try this to see if it works. Put the truck into 4x4. Turn off the truck with 4x4 engaged. Start it back up and drive forwards and backwards and see if it engages.
If not, keep it in 2wd... shut it down. While shut down put it into 4x4 and start it back up in 4x4 and drive forwards and backwards.
Perhaps even resetting the computer by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes.
It's strange the relay would be clicking though and it's not dropping into 4WD. Did you drive a long ways with it flashing to see if it would engage after a while?
I'm sure Victor or Chris may have some ideas...
I've had this happen a couple times last year.

I'll try those thing when I go home for lunch. I'm sure they would know. I've contacted Brian at Country Hills Toyota and he's going to talk to Sam if there is anything I can do before I bring it down.
PS - your welcome to come by RCTS in Calgary if you want to see the dyno runs on my truck on on Friday I will be there around 1pm.

ON further review I'm not getting the third click when it actually engages.
I only hear two clicks when I turn the button and then it sits there an blinks at me.
tried everything Freeze suggested and got nothing from it.

Maybe try driving forwards in a zig zag like when you have to engage the rear diff.

I'm thinking its the four wheel drive ECU just looking in the service manual for the truck.

Tried that though, and I have ARB lockers front and back.

Just talking with Sam at country hills he seems to think it might be the 4x4 actuator on the front diff, so this saturday I will get in there and see if I can see anything!
Once again the great guys at country hills help me out again!

Silly push button 4x4 nonsense. My understanding is that there is a an electronic and a mechanical side to the actuator. If both sides do not operate properly, it doesn't work. I'd be guessing a relay controled solenoid that operates a vacuum line of some kind.
They better figure it out. Ah well. When are you going to Reg's to do the tune?

I will be their tomorrow at 1pm for the tune.
I will have a look at the actuator myself on Saturday and give it a good once over and if I can't get it running it will be off to Country Hills for Inacoma for a few days of warranty work.

If you run a lot of mud then its most likely filled the actuator full. There was a guy on TTORA that had the same issue. Went threw all the wiring and when he disassembled the actuator he found it full of mud. I think his was the T-case one though. Can't remember exactly but I know it was one of the actuators.

I hate mud :)
The back one in the transfer case looks fine and everything is tight, but the front is cover buy a huge belly pan from the nose to the back of the transfer case. I bet once I get in there and have a look around and check the plugs for the electronic and vacuum lines the solution should present itself. if not, its off to the dealership she goes.
