Hey, I'm putting this out there as I am having an issue with my stock radio.

I have a 2009 Tacoma (purchased Oct 2008) and I love the truck, just have an issue with the radio

It has a tendancy to turn off on its own, come back on without the display working (just a blank screen) or my personal favorite, turn back on with no power (ie backlight buttons) and just a glowing screen.

It can go weeks without an issue and then it can happen like 20 times in one day. I don't think it is a loose connection in the harness as it will turn on and off whether I'm moving or not.

I have a new one on order (under warranty) but this will be the second one that has been installed under warranty..... I am wondering if I keep getting dud radios, or if there is a bigger issue with my truck, ie electrical.

If anyone has any advice or heard of this issue, any help would be appreciated!

You need a new one, then you'll need a new one, and another new one.. some guys changed it seven times and counting...

if mine starts doing this, it's a new deck coming in I think

Have you done any electrical additions to the truck? Chris K might have some ideas. I'd be thinking it was a short of somekind but you don't seem to be blowing any fuses.

EDIT - Ne'ermind ... sounds like an issue with 2nd gen trucks as per BB's link.

It is definitely an issue with the crappy AC/Delco decks in the 09+ trucks. Once your third one dies, I'd suggest investing in a nice aftermarket deck.

I put in a nice iPod control deck a few months back, even though my stock stereo worked fine. No regrets, I love it.

S*** dude, you can have my old stocker... It's never going back in my truck!

I feel bad for selling step sides you will never use so if you want it, it's yours!

EDIT - if it will work with yours, probably not...

No worries, I still have a bit till my warranty expires (5,000 km's) and yes I drive that much... so I am getting another new stereo compliments of Toyota :) I hope I can put a record or something in my file that lets me keep getting free stereos based upon issues with it!

And don't worry about the running boards, the hope is that I will get them on for the winter. Its on my list to do before I cant work on the truck anymore cause of snow!
