View Full Version : Question for you... suspension noise I have

If in full lock to the left and I go up on a curb (no, not a parking curb, an entrance to a parking lot; ramp if you will) I get a somewhat harsh loud squeak.
Any thoughts on what that might be and if I should be concerned? I'm running stock tires, no lift and thusfar in its life, it hasn't gone anywhere but to Heninger to be serviced (though that is going to change now that warranty is done).
Thanks in advance everyone!

You have a steering stopper, it's probably doing it's job. It's a machined surface in the control arm and knuckle if I am not mistaken and it's a metal on metal deal. You really shouldn't be going full lock and rubbing those stoppers often.

Good to know; I don't do it often and try to avoid it whenever I can! Thanks for the help.

The rubber caps wear out and the noise starts. My old 92 pickup used to do it...I don't 'think' it harms anything.

Hmm... I only have 70,xxx km's on my truck. Is it normal to be worn out by now? Seems odd...

whoa...yeah, I don't know that much about it but that sure seems odd to me. Maybe it's possible they fall off? Just take a look, you should be able to tell by looking at it if it's the issue?

I just put some grease on the end of mine, seems to work.

They DO NOT have caps on them at all, since I doubt you'll be rubbing up on those often. You don't need to grease them really. It's on the older trucks with the steering box setup that require that type of maintenance more so.

I don't have steering stops anymore... the wheel stops when the rack runs out of gears.

The thicker the grease the better. I like to use diamond drill rod grease when I can get hold of it. Wheel bearing grease works OK, just have to apply it more often.
I would not bother buying spare caps. waste of money.

just have to make sure your rack is in center so you don;t get more turn to one side then you do the other...HAHAHAHA
