I'll be in school from Jan to the end of March. I've been told their attendance rules are a little draconian at Sait and I won't be able to miss any days.
Interested all the same.

Mookie,
are you going to visit or do some 4WD'ing?... Nissan or Toyota?
I've heard from people on the Rubicon that Moab is a lot less technical than the Rubicon but I'm sure you could find trouble if you're looking for it.

$x4ing of course! You're right, you can find trouble if you look for it. It will be the annual Nissan (the GONE Moab event). However, we had an invitation from GONE to invite friends other than Nissans to come along. We'll be getting more details on that. Perhaps one large convoy?!
There are techy sections, just that it is a whole different type of wheeling, so it's kinda like comparing apples to oranges between Moab and the Con. I think the most part is if you screw up major on an obstacle on the more difficult rated trails, you are flopping and/or rolling until you reach the bottom. Also, depending on the trail, you can be doing techy sections inches away from the cliffs edge. No room for error. Some off camber trails have a few feet of run out before the cliff if you think you are flopping. Fun stuff. There are of course trails for all levels of experience and how bad you want to dent your truck.

that's what i've gathered from Moab is that there's more possibilities for rolling over, falling off a cliff or ending up on your nose.

Moab maybe completely shut down in the very near future. I will get more details and post up in the land issue section. Maybe there is something us Canadians can do to help out. There is a big meeting on October 1st to decide the fate of Moab/Utah wheeling.

I'm seriously thinking about attending...I think. :-) I'm going to do more research on the difficulty. It all depends on the exact trails we would be going on.

I drove through Moab last Feb, and LOVED it. I would want to go back, but I think at that point in time I might still have a stock rig. If its not too crazy I might be able to get away for a bit :)

You can rent a Jeep with lift, lockers and 33"s for just under $200 per day and they give you a cooler filled with ice and bottled water. Took my family out on the trails in Moab and the rental place provided great trail maps that took us up to Schafer and Gemini Bridges.

What's the insurance like on those jeep rentals?

Insurance was cheap as they transfer your vehicles to theirs and then I paid $25 for glass and tire damage. I believe it came out to $193 for the rental with all the miscelanous fees which was a good deal for a days entertainment. The Jeep we had came with electric sway bar disconnects, lockers, lift and large tires I just wished I could have truly tested it all out. I erred on the side of caution and chose basic trails as we were one vehicle wheeling in an unkown area and it was not my vehicle. I thought it wise to take it easy as getting stuck in 47c heat with the family would put me in the doghouse for a long time.
This is our Jeep - notice the missing bumper that's cause these things get wheeled alot and it's the first thing to get nailed.

Had to do this trail as it's sort of famous for photos.

PS... They do have a few FJ Cruisers for rent.

You couldn't pay me $200 a day to wheel a jeep they sound like they are about to gernade an axle all the time. All the clicks and bangs its just the jeep thing. I have been doing protected wheeling so i don't catch that jeep thing where it burns when you pee.
