Here are mine BJ40 that is going to have 80 series axles and coils springs, as well as a 6 cylinder Toyota turbo diesel 12H-T with a 5 speed. The other is a FJ45 just swapped in 60 series axles SOA, it has a 6 cylinder Toyota turbo diesel 1HD-T with auto(would rather have a manual but oh well).

If you want to check out the actual build threads click on the links in my Sig.
I update them when ever I do work. I am not starting build threads here keeping one thread up to date is hard enough but I have two to keep track off. I used to have the same set on another site and lets just say I only spent the time on IH8mud.

Hi guys,
Here are few pics of my 62. I've had it for 4 years or so, and have steadily been building it up. Currently I'm working towards getting it ready for the Alaska Cruiser Trek next summer and getting some of the rust knocked down enough to get a few more years of combined street and trail use out of it before putting it out to pasture and harvesting it for parts for my next 62.

Check Kijiji, I have noticed a couple of 70 series in the last week or two. Between Edmonton and Calgary there are a couple for less than 6K, diesels all and even some Left hand drive ones. I've talked to 4 people now who got them new in the 80s and went over a million kms before they had to rebuild then engine.

Hello everyone.
I am a Calgary boy, but currently working north of Rocky Mountain House as a School Teacher on the Res. I drive an 09 Tacoma and way back in 2003 I bought an 1984 BJ 46.
This cruiser was brought over with 120 000 km and now has 220 000 plus. I was my daily driver for years until I moved to Fort McKay (north of McMurry) so after a few 11 hrs trips I knew it was time to get something else. The cruiser has been put in storage but it comes out only during camping weekends. I know thats pretty sad, but thats life.
The specs on the cruiser... well its been a long time but i'll try
1984 BJ 46
VIN: BJ46000912
3B 3.4L Desiel
H3 Transfer Case
33" Super Sports
3" Belton Lift
Full Floating Rear End
PTO Winch
24 Volt
Factory Air Conditioning
Power Steering
Rear Bench Seating
Here are some Classic Pictures of the 46 out with the boys playing over the years.

Yeah, I'd need parts from an *J78 donor, likely. I'd need all four doors, the B pillar, roof, floorpan, headliner, carpet trim etc. Most of it would go together easily. Splicing the front half of the *J78 doors to the rear half of the Hzj79 doors while using the factory glass and window mechanism will be the tricky part. I'd start with that and build the truck around it.
LJ78s come along every now and again with broken heads for very little money.

The springs are OME 850 front and 860 rears, I have ample room for the tires at this height and do not rub at all. I will need to get 863 for the rear once I get the rear bumper built from the feel of it though.
I live in a town house with a low garage and it fits in the door. I would guess the garage door is 7ft and I still have a good 3" clearance.

Here's how my 80 is currently sitting. The PIAA's were installed by a previous owner and will be removed/relocated sooner or later.

Nice 80 man!
Throw on you front mud flaps again or say bye-bye to your rocker/door paint. I know from experience.
Yeah they aren't the most attractive thing with the hole on the back for the side step but rusty rockers are uglier. haha

Do you do any towing or plan to tow?
If not I can fab you a recovery mount the goes in the 4 factory holes on the rear frame/bumper location.
It allows you to remove the hitch for more rear clearance and cleans up the rear end a lot.

I don't plan on towing any time soon but things might change, who knows. I was just going to throw a reciever shackle mount in there for now. I am also looking at getting a different rear bumper, probably something like the cruisin offroad one with the hitch incorporated on the bumper.
Are those 4 holes strong enough to use as a recovery point? Reading on ih8mud.com made me think that it isn't but I could be wrong. How easy would it be to mount yours?
Oh and I have front mud flaps coming. Proper flaps, so that I don't have to reuse the ones with slots for the running boards.

Those 4 holes are used in the rest of the world as the tow location and have been tested by numerous military's. I read somewhere of it being tested by (I can't remember who's military) to 10,000 kg's. They somehow strapped the vehicle down and pulled with some device to measure the yield.
Both myself and Fundip have our recovery points there and not once had a issue. It's the frame....and very, very beefed up at that point.
The top two holes are M12 x 1.25 threaded holes and the bottom 2 are M12 through holes. Literally takes 3 minutes to install.
