I've been interested in getting a DC Taco for some time and have been searching forums, kijiji, craigslist etc, etc. Recently there have been a couple that i'm interested in but would like your opinions on both. Here are links to both that are local to me.

Post up your opinions and any questions I should ask the owners about their vehicles.

Cheers

they are both very expensive when you consider the difference with a new one.

toyota lowered the msrp a lot sicne 2006 that might be why.. but I can't justify paying close to 30k when you can get a new one, warranty and leather for 10k more (and that's including taxes and all!!)

More electronic stuff thinking it knows better then you do if you buy a new one. See if you can find a stock one and do your own mods. They are pretty pricey for mall crawlers.

I'm with you on the mall crawler mods.

Also I'd find a stock one or a way cheaper used one. ask oriontaco how much he paid his '06! and this was like a year ago.

I picked up a used DC/LB w/ SR5 package, 22,xxxkm from a dealer for a few grand less than either option, in April of this year. GST added on about a grand which sucks.

Mine also came with a decent hard rollup tonneau, bullbar, fogs and driving lights.

I switched out the lame SR5 seats for a TRD interior for a net cost of $200, added a trailer hitch for $100, and tossed in a bluetooth/ipod/mp3 deck for another $300.

Only thing I'm short of compared to a TRD OR/Sport package truck would be an LSD or locker. And minor exterior cosmetics.

Like Etienne said, it's only $10-12k for a brand new taco optioned exactly how you'd like it though. To me, that money was not immaterial, I decided the used was the way to go.

As a bonus, I scored maybe 1-2k worth of decent accessories, and the previous owner had already done me a favor and backed into something with the chrome bumper. So when I crunched the same bumper into a workmate, I hardly cringed at all. And this way I'm much much closer to a nice Armortech bumper ;)

I just priced one out online. 2010 TRD sport with leather with zero additional options and it came to $44,139 after taxes and levies. This unfortunately is way out of my budget. Does Toyota Canada not sell the TRD off-road?

The TRD packages here at a little different. I don't believe you can get a DC/SB in automatic with the TRD Off-Road trim. Perhaps with the 6spd manual. Pretty sure if you are going DC/LB you can only get the TRD Sport in canada. This has been much discussed on TacomaWorld et al.

Keep in mind you won't pay MSRP and there are great graduate incentives on the 'taco if you've matriculated in the past four years.

If you are interested, I can provide Car Cost Canada reports for a tacoma optioned the way you like it. You will be surprised to hear that after "invoice cost" plus 4-5% you are only 1-2k less than MSRP. At least this was the case when i checked it out.

I was in the exact same situation as you. Loved the new '09s, especially the idea of a leather interior. Did not love the price or the idea that I would need to finance it. Couldn't haggle what I considered a good deal off of MSRP. Couldn't even haggle worthwhile deals on used ones. The used market for tacomas seems a bit ludicrous.

Good luck.

I bought the exact same truck in April and paid 39,250 OTD taxes included

iamcdn has also the same truck but bought late last year and paid about $1000 less than me.

$38k is a good deal for a new truck with warranty, compared to $30k for a 2006

DCLB only in automatic and sport trim
DCSB only in manual and sport trim
you can get off road package only with access cab

i cant remember from when we were talking if that $1000 was with the grad discount or not. that would make up the difference if it did include it. $39k is about what you will expect to pay

I can understand where you guys are coming from, but buying new just isn't an option. I've listed my FJ for sale but currently have a lein on it because I used it as security for another loan. All this means is that whoever purchases my truck will be cutting a cheque to my bank instead of me. I've been pre-approved for another loan to purchase a Tacoma of equal value, which in turn will be used a security as the FJ was.

I think i'm a little more partial to the second truck I posted since it's listed as a DC TRD off-road short box. Was this a model that was available in Canada in 06? Or is it possible that this is a US model?

BeachBoy

could be a us model, there are quite a few here.

I would personally look for a US model with your $ amount. You can get a new OR in the US for about $27k OTD USD and exchange rate is great.

You might find more used ones also.

A Double Cab TRD Off-Road is US Spec. only Tacoma.

Having a double cab off-road with a locker would be awesome.

Tell me about it!

Buggers at Toyota Canada didn't think we would want it?!?!?!

That one still hurts my head.

It's been confirmed the second truck is US spec. Double Cab Shortbox TRD off-road with rear locker and Downhill Assist.

nice, I'm curious as to how I could add downhill assist on mine, I'm sure it's all in the 4wd control box.. I saw that I have the LED in the cluster for it (as well as the led for locker)

::has a double cab short bed in trd-offroad trim::

not to rub it in your face or anything ;)

I can certainly relate to toyota canada's lame choice to limit the option combinations here. I'm just lucky i found a US model for sale near me.
