Haha don't do it Will. Do an SAS, you still keep the crappy wheel bearings with long travel. Plus were else other then a mall will you find such an open space up here... I guess we could go to Saskatchewan haha

Oh yeah 6x6, haha, LT for the desert. I am interested to see how all of that stands up to our not so dry desert conditions up here.

haha.... yeah solid axle indeed. FJ 80 fronts. I've seen a Hilux with the full FJ80 with the lower arms flex out pretty awesome. Not bad for using the FJ80 lower arms.
I've got lots of photo's for this swap.... I was pretty close to doing it before the All-Pro contest.

Do you have any more pictures of that set up Nathan? I am going to 3 link my 80 series axle same kinda set up as Gary. Those lower links don't provide much for flex.

I've got more somewhere... this is what I could find

I'm still not going to use the factory links they are too short to provide any real flex. The design is not very good for flex either.

yeah if you want to really get flexed out... 3 or 4 link would be the way to go.
This set up is more for a compromise of not wanting to have too much lift and keeping more of a stock look.

Last picture isn't the same truck. The other one uses Coil overs and the bottom one just uses a coil. As well Bottom one doesn't have to bottom link wrap around the one side of the axle from what I can see and that is what gives flex on these set ups. Some guys with 80 series pull out one bolt on the front side of the axle and gain a ton of flex. I think these trucks are set up different I am going for more of the last picture than the other one.

He is using lower arms similar to the FJ80 set up but the arms are longer and have a similar bend so the angle isn't as extreme allowing for more droop. Then for the top he's running a panhard.

Mmm... full coil set up. That is what I have been researching all morning waiting for my seals to come in at Toyota so I can start ripping back into my truck so its ready for tomorrow. 40 series is going to be insane with wheel base stretched over a foot from stock and 6 inches wider thanks to the 80 series axles and full coil suspension. To bad that one isn't even close to being done. Still have to strip the body off when I am done fabbing and get frame coated, do the body work and paint. 45 series just need to rebuild engine finish body work, build flat deck and she is on the road. Soon hopefully next year at the latest.

Yeah, we used to wheel with a local guy here who had an FJ80 with a 9" lift on 37's using the stock radius arms, and he flexed OK, but certainly not great. There is a point where the radius arms will bind because it is physically impossible to flex beyond a certain point if you have both the front and the rear of the axle tied in. Also, they do nothing for clearance at the bottom of the axle (I saw one guy who modified and flipped them to the top of the axle).
Much easier and cheaper than a 3 or 4 link, though.

heres what lt with fenders and arb bumper looks like
canadian bum

That bumper isn't going to help much with the tight trails we have up here say bu bye to those fenders when you enter a big hole or hit a tree.

Yes, I agree. Your bumper is supposed to protect what is behind it, and it doesn't look as if your fenders are getting any protection. Looks nice, though.

Elephantitis of the fenders.

that's one reason I'd like to have LT with stock width (i.e. high angle cv).. but before that, dual lockers will help more than LT!
Although dezert LT trucks are awesome with front skids up to the grill and ultra wide stance

I would not put a SUA on a trail rig, I would prefer our current setup
freeze
08-31-2009, 07:31 PM
lots of the older Cruisers had SUA set up which worked well until you want some sort of lift in which then the cheapest way to gain a few inches was to SOA.
There could be more stability had from SUA when the leafs unload. Not sure as I've never 4WD'd a truck with SUA

I thought SUA was better for desert runners, as they don't care as much about clearance.
Also, allpro is going in a direction I don't like, going towards the desert racing scene (LT, etc). it's ok for california guys, but I think they won't come close to what DMZ and such makes. I feel like it's more of a "ohh prerunners are the craze so we'll make some $ off the hype".
I just hope they will keep the trail stuff going (maybe yes seeing they have their new bumper)

SUA kills ground clearance big time. Although I have to build a track bar now with my SOA 45 to keep down on the axle wrap. Also way more flex out of an SOA cruiser than an SUA cruiser.

They've been working with Engage for their rear set ups. It's more to do with Jon (Owner of All-Pro) is bit by the desert bug. As he's using Sarah's old Tacoma with All-Pro LT kit up front and a new leaf set up that Engage and All-Pro have come up with.

There's some thoughts on a cantilever system perhaps.

Pre-Runner's has been around for a really long time... longer than rock crawling so I don't think it's really hype they're after... I mean look at Ivan Ironman Stewart and his stadium trucks and Baja.... Toyota Trucks were all based off that whole stadium racing/Baja go fast stuff, it's more Jon getting into the go fast desert stuff to probably expand his Off-Road repertoire and skills.
http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll121/fuzzizino/IvanStewartToyota_002.jpg?t=1251785193
If it wasn't for Marlin... we'd only have go fast desert trucks.
