Sooo I've bled the brakes twice now... no air. Still getting the random soft pedal. Is there something with the ABS that needs to be bled?

Calipers bled and master/booster bled... running out of ideas

You may have to bleed the ABS modulator. It's the block on the RH side inner fender.

If you're getting a solid stream of brake fluid assuming that you've bled it twice already. Check the adjustment on your rear shoes, and adjust them accordingly (slight drag) on the drum. I've been caught a few times thinking there was still air in the system but the shoes were actually way out of adjustment. Assuming were talking about drum brakes...haha

Thanks Victor..

haha...yeah they're drum brakes! I sent it back to Country Hills after a bit of a debacle and asked them to check the adjustment on the rear shoes and hook it up to the techstream to bleed them.

Do the rears not adjust on their own?

I don't think Toyota ever got the auto-adjust right on the drums. My 82 never did it right, and my 4Runner doesn't...it wouldn't surprise me if the core design hasn't changed since 79. lol

So part of it could have been the wheel bearing. The wheel was moving so much that it could have been pushing the calipers apart and the soft pedal was coming from the extra travel inthr pads.

Well, they adjust only when you pull the e-brake, right? And you have to pull it hard and frequently enough for the star to ratchet and adjust.

The wheel bearing play does cause a big time loss of braking. I am surprised you made it back if your wheel bearing was that bad.

yeah me too.. The only thing that gave it away was the loud grinding noise coming from the hub the next day back in Calgary going around corners. Drive home was fine from Crowsnest though.. didn't make a sound!

It was bad... almost 2" of play.
