Hey guys

I'm going camping up by Rocky for the August long weekend, and would like to get at least a couple runs in. I thought that I would post early so people can make their long weekend plans accordingly. Myself, I will be camping from Friday till Monday and will probably be wheeling Sat and Sun, and perhaps even Mon.

So if you are interested in a run on one or more of these days, please let me know, so we can make arrangments on where and when to meet, etc. Also, we can arrange the run according to who wants to come (easy to mild).

Are you camping officially or somewhere for free along a trail?

I'd really like to go camping (we don't have this holiday in Quebec so I'm not used to a mid summer break hehe) but my budget is very tight as long as my gf does not find a job.

Yes, I'm camping with a bunch of other folks (not 4wheelers) right in RMH, but there are lots of free camping alongside the river and elsewhere near cow lake. I can explain or show you where.

I'm not planning on paying for camping never have and never will hopefully haha. I hate campgrounds. Winch I am in. This might be a prime time to do the Pre-run for the end of August trip.

oooh this sounds like a good one! I'll see if I can make'er. I might have a bike trip planned during that time but I try to stay off the highway during long weekends on the bike.

I might be going camping and fishing North of Nordegg for that weekend now. So I will have to see how things turn out.

OK, so just a bit of an update: If everything goes according to plan, we will have a mild/moderate run on Saturday. John will be leading this run which is the same run that Ettiene and Dave did about a month ago. And then we still plan on doing some wheeling/ scouting on Sunday and perhaps on Monday. In case you are interested, please let me know.

I would love to go up there again ... but the ol' lady has me going to Spokane instead. At least I can pick up a full size spare while I'm down there.

I would not call it anywhere near mild.. maybe moderate but def. not mild :)

I won't make it this weekend, unfortunately. I want to clean the truck and spend some time with the lady. I also need to work on CT4WD.com amongst many other projects

I am basically going to go about calling this the pre run trip for the end of August run. Check things out, already have a plan in mind for running two groups I went over it with Gary already.

OK, sounds good guys. Enjoy the long weekend. And I will be watching out for Dave's washout. That's for sure.

Lol ... Just don't be in a rush and tired at the same time. It was hardly an obstacle at all, I just made all the necessary mistakes to put myself in harm's way. You guys are going to have a ton of fun. I'm a little jealous that I'm not taking it on again.

Don't worry my plan for the end of August trip will involve one group doing the trail forwards and another do it backwards. This trail ends at the same place as another trail I know of so I have a plan to run two groups on the same 2 trails in different directions. Pretty interesting indeed haha.

it was indeed a very interesting run.

if we can find a way around the muskeg (or find a way to go through with less damage) that would make it even better.

Pretty sure there is no way around muskeg in this neck of the woods. Farther north you go the more your going to find. This trail had very little skeg for the area actually. Ha Ha you haven't even come across the bottomless skeg yet now when you come across that you turn around. The southern areas for sure have from what I seen no skeg. Very rocky. All I have to work with up here is small rock, hill climbs, washouts and skeg.

Well the skeg section has become a lot easier since it has dried up some. However there were some people in between this trip and the last time we were out there that chewed up area off the trail. Made a real mess basically trying to go around it. But there are now a lot of new ruts from some people going off trail as well as quads. I will pics up soon. Piled a rear brake because the e-brake jammed on on a hill. Went forwards a little then back to release it and it banged and now leaks brake fluid. Probably about $200 in parts. These second gens suck haha.

Yep, that's an awesome trail. Thanks for showing me around, John. And Doc, your washout got the better of my truck as well. I probably could have gone around it with some momentum, but for the sake of safety we hooked up the winch, because looking down that long rut with the truck leaning pretty good, did not feel all that great. I've got a few pics as well, that I'll post later.

if that's the skeg pictures, it's nonexistent compared to last time, very good thing for a run with more trucks.
