headlights turning on of their own accord

Hey,

I've got a weird issue, maybe someone here has an idea.

i've noticed at least 3 times for sure, that my truck's headlights have come on automagically while parked in front of my house, and then turned off again by the time i got out there to investigate.

I don't even know where to begin with this one, and it's not like I can take it to the dealer and say "sometimes my headlights turn on on their own" how can they test for that? how can they tell when it's been resolved?

It's a 2008 tacoma double cab TRD offroad with no mods, and 2500 miles.

Any ideas?

have you done the anytime foglight mod? or done DTRL from a US truck?

the truck "powers up" a few hours after shutting it down in order to do emission checks or something.

Your lights must have a short somewhere with something in this circuit...

No, the only mods I've done is adding d-rings to the bed, and weathertech floor liners (and an MV50 air compressor that has yet to be mounted).

It WAS a US truck though, and it did have a daytime running light mod done before I bought it to make it legal for use in Canada, checking that thread now.

Weird behavior with the truck powering up for a check after it's turned off. I never would have guessed...

wouldn't be surprised the DTRL mod is tapping where it shouldn't.

I would check where they plugged in the main fusebox and if it's the same place as this post, modify it as the other "anytime on" foglight mods do, so it doesn't make this

The DTRL will have a tach sensing wire that knows when the vehicle is started and flips the relay to power the headlights, always a possibility that they botched it somehow. What can be done is to put a relay on the headlight wire from the switch that will interupt the wire when the ignition is shut off. I have done this many times with Toyotas when the headlights wouldnt shut off after a remote start cycle.
