I've decided to try these tires out for my next set as my tread is pretty near the wear bars on my MTZ's.
Would anyone else like to purchase a set? If we get 3 sets it'll be around $1350CAD for 285's.
I'm going to have to get tires pretty soon, so if you'd like let me know. Just thought I'd offer the discount if anyone needs new tires.
I'm still waiting for Hutchinson to get me a price for their wheels before I purchase tires.

Price is pretty decent. I think regular price is $1,600 CAD
Yeah the tread pattern is interesting. I wasn't really into the side lugs, but apparently they are designed really well when aired down.
It's supposed to be really quiet on the road due to the tighter lugs in the center and really good at cleaning out with the larger lugs on the outside. The nice thing is it's sipped.
I hope these tires are as good as the MTZ's that you're running.

Nathan ... it might be worthwhile to use Discont Tire Direct out of the states and have them delivered to Montana. Aprox. $1563 CAD for 5 tires. Or $1250 CAD for 4. That's with their "Free Replacement Certificates". Without those you'd save another $163 USD or $131 USD respectively.

Yes, thanks to everyone who helped me out -that ratched strap I borrowed from Will did the job. In hindsight, I'm now pretty sure I busted that bolt when I tightened it up on Thursday, rather than on that hill. The thing keeps on loosening up on me, so on Thursday, I doubled up on a couple big wrenches for leverage, and on the last pull, the wrench came off violently. I thought it just slipped off the head, but now, I think I broke it, because the truck felt a bit loose all day, and started hopping on the hill which is something I have never felt in this truck before. I should be able to tell tonight when I inspect it. (Yes, yes, I'm hoping to find an excuse for loosing against Meghan :)

Got a friend that has them on his Cruiser. Went and tested them out not that long ago. In the mud they clog really fast. But that has always been the case with the MTR. However they seem to retain the mud while your driving along the trail for some time. My KM2's just naturally clean at a slow trail speed but the MTR seemed to like to cling the mud. Further testing will be taken into consideration. And we have two identical vehicles running similar sized tires. One stock height one 3 inch lift. Both are 80 series diesel land cruisers with front and rear lockers.
Stock hieght one has 33x12.5R15 on a 10 inch wide rim. The 3 inch one has 305/70R16 KM2's. Just from what I have seen so far I think the KM2 has it beat. Mind you this is in traction not how tough the tire is when it comes to abuse. I know BFG has a reputation for ripping out side walls but I am on my third set of BFG's in the taco 5th set total and have put all of the tires through hell and haven't torn a sidewall yet. I have seen it happen though in what seems like the least likely circumstances.
Will update later but so far I and my other friend love our KM2's. The one with the MTR's once he gets his 4 inch lift is going to go with a set of Nitto Mud Grapplers.

I haven't heard very good things on the Mud Grapplers. Go the Trail grapplers. More like BFGs old KMs.
That and I hate the gay crap Nitto puts on the side of their tires. (Trail grapplers exempt cause they don't have any, just lugs)

I know that the MT/R's are a rock tire. But they should still clean out when driving down dry trail. We will have a good test here in a little bit. Run equal pressures or find out what pressures make the tires flex equal amounts. Even though you can go lower with the 16 inch rim just because it holds the beads better.
I will the running the Mud Grapplers on the 45. Done lots of research and talked to a few people that have run them and are running them. I was thinking they would be worn out in no time but are lasting 70,000+ km's on an F-350 so that is plenty for me.
As for the gay crap on the side walls I don't think the mud grapplers sidewalls are gay they are really tough and thick the side wall lugs stick out a ton for better traction aired down and less chance of ripping on rocks.
The downsides to a Mud Grappler is that they compare with a bogger to noise on the highway if you care about noise, lots of coin, and limited variation in sizes.
To me I will pay the money to have a good tire that is going to last because I could go through a couple of super swampers before one set of Nitto's.

Yeah, I think the new MTR's should clean out a bit better than the old style, but what I would be interseted in is to see how they compare with the KM2's on rock (and perhaps even with the old MTR's) :)

from researching the new MT/R Kevlar's ( I was going to go with these )... Here's what I've found:
Extremely quiet from the outgoing model
Computer modeled in Nasa server farm for increased mud clearing and side biter design.
It is not a directinal design so it can be rotated
You have to order white's out or black out specifically
Does have limited siping in the middle tread blocks
Not great in compact snow but much better than outgoing model
Better directional control in mud and snow
As good if not better in the rocks than the outgoing model (which is pretty dang good!

From what I have seen is that I think the old ones clean a little better but a side by side test is needed to for sure see. The MT/R and KM2 test will happen whenever I have the time to go out wheeling as well as the other 2 80 series are available for the trip.

The sidewalls are just a personal preference. I don't knock people who roll with them, I just won't be purchasing a set myself due to the fact that I couldn't stand them on my truck.
If they work good as mudders, have at. Reading up on them myself, I found that for the price you can get comparable performance with a cheaper tire. But again...this is 3rd hand information, I haven't personally run a set (and won't unless they're free).
But I will be curious to hear your review on them on a Taco.

They won't be on a Taco. They will be on my 45. And its because of the size that I am looking at these tires. 35x14.5R15. I don't like running a 10 inch wide rim on a 12.5 tire. The rim gets too chewed up and there are only a select few tires that are over 12.5. If Iroks lasted on the highway I would have put a set of those on. But in the rocks and all other types of terrains the Mud Grapplers perform well. The only Nitto Tires I think look gay are the dune grapplers but I don't know anyone who would ever run those.
You mentioned tires that are cheaper and would get similar performance could you please list them? As maybe I have missed them. The other option which is a possibility is the Toyo Open Country M/T's. either the 37x14.5R15 or the 35x13.5R15. If I need bigger than a 35 I will go with the Toyo's.

Rims going to get chewed up no matter, just need bigger rocks!, but I can understand if it's losing a bead you're worried about. I run a 10.5" rim (Champion Beadlock) on 12.5" and the tires still bulge over the rim. Old MT/R measure's narrow too. You won't have issues running a 10" wide on 12.5", just a matter of beads blowing a little easier than 8". Aired down with the wider rim you don't get cupping so you tread sits nice and flat.

I still don't want to run a 12.5 on a 10. There are lots of options if I stick to 12.5 but if I do I would switch out to a 8 inch wide rim. It's not as easy to chew up an 8 inch wide rim as a 10 inch. I will be running inner bead lock bladders so I am not afraid of loosing a bead its just the fact that I will be running a lot of rocks with this truck and to have the rim tucked in would be better for my application.

All those tires are only 12.5's. There are a boat load of 12.5's.
MT/R's
KM2's
MTZ's
Truxus MT's
SSR's
Piles upon piles of 12.5's for a 35 inch tire. However the tires that are wider than 12.5's are limited and if I have missed any let me know. Super Swamper makes a couple but run a competition style tread compound which lasts at best 20,000 km's on the highway. The other two are Toyo and Nitto. Mickey Tompson makes a 36x15.5R16 which in a magazine they misprinted and said 15 inch rim. So options are still limited. There are tons of tires out there that are a 12.5 wide probably triple at least what I listed for a 35.

I've had 285/70/75s for a few months now, they're not as quiet as I was expecting/what they're claiming, pretty much the same road noise as any other M/T I've run. I've run the old MT/Rs like you, and compared to them, the new ones are a huge improvement on the trail. The mud traction is greatly improved, some people say they don't clean, but my tacoma hasn't had a problem cleaning them out. The first weekend I had them I went out to Golden sledding, and they destroyed the fire roads with about 1' of fresh wet snow. With all the wheeling you do i'd recomend them for sure, they work awesome.

It does suck a bit, but really no big deal, just a delay on when I could see what they can do! New set going on now. I'm really surprised they got 4 replacement tires so quickly. :D

That was fast. Are you putting the white out this time or back in again?

White is going on the inside, I thought about playing it safe with white out but.. (Cue stubbornness)
I have no idea! Haha, I do know they had to get them out of Alberta.

These are intended for "white-out" direction are they not? I remember reading somewhere that they are not directional but are meant to be white-out, is that correct?

Yes they are, you can mount them backwards or forwards but they do have a specific side that they want you to have out. Some sizes are black out and some are white out. I read somewhere that it is to get the best performance out of the tire. But there are reports of people running them black out where they're intended for white out with no problems.

[QUOTE=Krazie Sj;16408]Hmm, then I got nothing I'm sorry. To fit those on my taco would require an act of god. :p

No more like an act of grinder and welder. Just gotta shop at the body mount a bit and little plastic trimming.
It's been done.
