A cropped pic that isn't quite current. I've recently added the Trail-Gear sliders and have the turn signals and IPF foglight covers installed in the ARB. I plan on painting the bezel black along with the rear bumper wings, mirrors and door handles.

Hey guys heres some pics of my FJ.

Redcliff, eh? Two things ... 1 - When is the Hat gonna let strippers in. 2 - There good place to wheel out that way? It sure looks like fun by your pics.

The tires are 34 inches, thats why they look so big. The hats bylaws will not allow strippers but Redcliff does have strippers. The pic of me on the front end of the FJ is at the Ghost land use area.

no wonder... they looked a little big for 285's!

I think we might have some FJ converts in the group as my ladyfriend (motochick) is looking for an FJ as well as Doc mentioned he might also go the FJ route in the future!

Thanks for the complements, I'm a bit of an amateur photographer in my spare time. My flickr gallery (http://gallery.jeffmoss.ca/).

Brazenhead: yeah, the trailer does look long behind the FJ and I get funny looks from other FJ owners on the road. But it pull's it well, lots of power and torque and I have no issue traveling around the 90-110k mark on the highways.

Oh - the gas milage totally SUCKs so we try not to think about it as a gas gauge... but more like a "fun" gauge. "The more we use... the more fun we're having" LOL.

I removed the grill and the centre honeycomb section. The grill took about 1 1/2 hours and the mirrors and handles took about 1 hour. I used only one can of Krylon paint (made for plastic). Lots of tape and news paper.

Thanks rickashay! Well these shots are more of a point and shoot style for myself and I use a Canon 30D swapping between a 50mm Prime lens and a wide angle 10 - 20mm. To be honest, I actually shot film for about 9 years before I ever touched a digital camera and I still have trouble crossing over. So i'd say I shoot 75% film and 25% digital. If you're bored, here's some of my film shots!

Oh nice!! your old school. haha I shoot all digital but thats probably because I got into photography when Digital SLR's became maintstream and relatively affordable. (the past, 5 years ish) I do have the upmost respect for the guys, including yourself, still shooting with film. How do you like the 10-20? Im guessing its the canon 10-20?

05-03-2010, 10:26 PM
Well depending on what kind of context you read these posts in... We could be teaching people to take better pictures of their FJ's? Haha. I actually use the Sigma 10 - 20 and I really enjoy it. The glass has given me great performance time and time again. Luckily for you shooting DSLR, with the 1.6 multiplication on the sensor it sets the lens up perfectly with the body. Unfortunately, when I pair it with my film SLR, I end up getting image burning in the corners. So if you were to have a full frame DSLR I don't know if it's something you'd want. Unless that's the look you're going for. I could seriously go off for days talking about camera tech info haha. Hope that helped at all.

Nope, all GoPro. It was all shot at 1080P so it's shooting at... 120 Something degrees of view. Since then though, i've swapped down to 720P @ 60 FPS and I think it's 170 something degrees.

See the thread about Lower Control Arms, But in a nut shell, had to have them replaced @ 38,000K. Seize adjusters. The tech said I must have gotten them wet. Thank God for extended warranty. You need to have alignments more often to keep them loose (the adjusters that is).

I wouldn't worry too much about getting them wet... I've got over 100,000 kms on mine... A bunch of those miles had the LCA's wet (under water etc...) no problems adjusting them... Just a single slightly loose passenger lower ball joint. I suspect Blake's situation is more of an exception rather than the norm. Besides, they get wet from normal use in the rain anyway. Now, Idler Pulleys, that's a different story... DOn't submerge 'em unless you've got the newest part number... I went through 4 sets in the first 60,000km... The lastest set seem good, But I haven't given them a really good dunking yet. :)

Cheers!

Nathan you're probably right. I think its funny though the tech said I must have had it off road and got them wet, then let it sit for awhile. This is an off road vehicle , isn't it? The pause on the other end of the phone was great too, when the service advisor told me it would be $2600 to fix and I said "No it won't". He didn't bother to check that I had Extended Warranty. All is good now, and I got a new LF axle and CV boots out of the deal after someone stuck a screw driver in the outer CV boot when the lower control arms were replaced and left me with a wheel well full of grease.
Can't wait to try it all out on Sun. I hope the tech that worked on my truck is there (just in case something goes wrong) LOL.

Thanks! It's the 50mm 1.4. Reviews kept saying it wasn't worth the extra money over the 1.8. I couldn't disagree more. HUGE differences from build quality to image quality. Very impressed. Unfortunately the trail got too tight after this shot. Most technical trip i've done in the FJ to date.

Originally I was hoping to make a little video on some nice dry roads and a few technical areas. After driving 50 mins on the hwy, I got to where I had planned for the day and there was almost a foot of snow! Did what I could and it was a great time! Took some wrong turns and had to look for the trail a few times, also made it about 6 or 7 km's passed any other tracks which felt great (thanks Freeze, stole your side to side steering technique in deep snow). Hope you enjoy!

For sure!....most 4x4 videos comprise of mayhem and some sort of metal song that's overplayed like "bodies on the floor" or "down with the sickness".....

Something about having to be hardcore (or at least play metal) in 4x4 videos which is funny... you're driving a truck... you're not leaping off a 1,000ft cliff in a wing suit...

It's funny because people who ride (biking, skiing, climbing etc) in video's that have to do with putting you life at risk... they are done with amazing edits and music that doesn't scream... I'm trying to be a meat head! Driving a 4WD is about finesse and picking a line and getting to some incredible places... video edits that can highlight this is where the trend will start going...I hope.

So.. more videos!

Anyhow I hope Mine and Nathans "tempting" you is working hazardhat! Hey Addison, you're right, in my younger days, I would do that, but the laziness factor kicked in for these two seniors, so we needed a bit of help. But I did take in a washed vehicle because I just didn't have the heart to take it in with all the mud on the undercarriage.

They weren't kidding when they said showroom ready--even the sliders and floor mats got a shiny and slippery finish! so now I've got to de-shine it--and make it more functional 'cause I almost slipped off of my slider and that would have looked hilarious.

But I agree, a little elbow grease is what's needed for a good cleaning and your white vehicle probably weathered the brushes not too badly. Just wanted to give Heninger a shout out for a job well done.

Hey Brett: hope the other guy in Canmore will help you out. It's hard to keep all parts of the vehicle looking good especially with what we do with them. If you follow Addison's advice and method, I'll bet your truck will look good and can come out to the sunlight once again and play.

Not only are sliders, protection, but a very vital and practical piece of equipment that allows short people like me heave ourselves onto the FJ especially in the city, with my platform spiked heels (not that Reeeno, you would know anything about that), one needs to get on and off without mishaps. However, with clean, shiney, slippery sliders,--I almost didn't get onto the vehicle, as I found my foot "sliding" away on me, (uh oh, 'smiley face')!

They're called sliders but definitely not for those reasons.

Well this may be the last time my truck is seen looking like this. I must admit, the stock FJ has taken me everywhere I have attempted to take it. I have been perhaps a bit too gentle, as I got it with 25km on it, but am now up to 100,000km. Now I have gone on a CT4WD trail run, and been inspired by Bette and what her built FJ could do on some obstacles, that my stock one had to cautiously avoid or scratch through. First and foremost, protection is my goal. Once I have all that extra weight, it will be suspension, and of course some new rubber. This group by thing is great, and expensive, but the next time many of you see my truck, it will be a little more trail equipped. First I would like to thank Nathan for all his guidance getting the parts I need. I can't wait to start the mods, and show you all the progress.

See you out on the trail,

BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A. They have been great, and my favorite tire ever on a vehicle for summer, winter, trail. Going to have to get some bigger ones here soon, so if you know someone who needs some half remaining life tires, send them my way. I hope that wasn't my truck you saw, I am in Onterrible... Applied a lil upgrade to my FJ. Still lots to do, but I think she looks a little meaner now

I like the black, what'd you use to paint it?

We (my brother and I) used 2 coats of "E-Z bedliner spray", and then 2 coats of the "Duplicolor Trim Spray." Takes a little time, but in my opinion its worth saving the $1400 it would cost to purchase the black TT peices...
