Anyone here successfully complete a black headlight mod?
I'm toying with the idea of doing mine, but just wondering how it would hold up to a Calgary winter.
I don't think I will do black though. Maybe more of a gunmetal/graphite colour to match my wheels. Then I can paint my billet grille the same.

City Rider did the headlight mod. He could probably share his experiences. I never did it because I spend too much time in the mountains where condensation would be a problem.

Hey Hey Hey!
Ya, I did mine - truck looks way better in my opinion. Especially with a black truck. You could really paint them any color you want... as long as it's a good plastic paint (I think I used Krylon).
Initially I didn't put any additional sealant into the seam where you pull the headlights apart and simply placed a bead on top in the groove. After some a couple beads of water showed up I had to pull one out and re-heat it a couple times (finally adding sealant in to the groove after pulling it out a bit once heated).
I've got the problem licked now but I could definitely use a couple new grommets... only after completing the HID mod in the Civic did I figure out how to cut the grommets to fit my new bulbs... I had some minor fog show up last year when I was driving through like 2-3' drifts and filling the engine compartment with snow so I think that was just the snow getting in behind and the grommets not fitting.
I'm always game to help on this mod - it's a bit tricky... but in my opinion well worth it.

Thanks for the reply. I think I will do it. What did you use for sealant?

Just some clear silicone - nothing special. I figure if you went all out it would be best to use the grey crap Toyota but as mentioned previously, clear silicone worked for me.

Did you take out the urine colored lenses or leave them in? I'm thinking about ditching them and getting a set of these chrome bulbs that are amber when lit.

I put them in the oven at 200 for about 20 min but kept an eye on them. Pull them apart while you pry up the locking tabs. I didnt sand or prime but I used krylon fusion and it worked well. Let the paint dry and stick the parts in the oven again before you put them together again. The 2 tricky parts are getting the headlight bolt out from the inner fender area and separating the headlight halfs. Just be patient and you will like the results. The headlights have vents in the rear so if moisture does get in there it can escape but I would try to seal them as best as you can.
