so I have developed a kind of whirr noise, kind of like the tire hum but way more intense. I have it narrowed down to the right side up front.
My 2 possible causes for the noise so i figure are either a dry cv joint or a wheel bearing on the outs. When I turn the wheel to make a right turn the noise goes away because i am now loading the suspension on the driver side. My question is can that possibly be a dry cv?? I do have a leaky boot so there is cause but the noise going away when I turn right says wheel bearing to me. I also do have 107k on the truck now so could it just be time for the wheel bearing??
Please give me ideas.... I dont know any mechanics in the city and will have to take it to the dealership if this is something that I cant do myself. oh and it is getting worse by the km so I need to get on it.
Thanks

Could be alot couple of things, it could be a dry front spindle, i dont think its the cv joints because the only way that they would be making noises is in 4x4 due to the ADD hubs, could also be wheelbearings to... hmm

I had a similar noise in my Tacoma... ended up being the front diff. Dealer replaced it no questions asked.
It could also be the mud/dirt guards near the bearing that keeps dirt out from the rubber seal near the wheel bearing or the diff. Could have gotten gunk in there and munched the metal lip a bit.
The whirr could be the front diff though. Hard to tell through the interweb... wish I could drop by and check it out

My bet is a wheel bearing just jack up the one side and wiggle the tire in and out. If it moves then your wheel bearing is screwed. I just did one in my truck and am pissed about it because i just did them last fall. And I didn't see much for mud. Also you could drive a little ways and put your hand on the wheel bearing area to see if its hot, if it is warm then its time for a wheel bearing.

Tried the hand on the wheel after a drive and it wasnt hot or even really warm. But when I unload the weight from that wheel while turning the noise disappears so that leads me more to the wheel bearing aswell.
It better not be the front dif.....

A friend of mine owns a mechanic shop here in Calgary. Great little shop with a good reputation. Most of his work is through repeat customers.
Give him a call. He can diagnose the problem and then leave it up to you how you want it handled, dealership or otherwise.
I don't know what his shop rates are, but it's worth a look.

I have narrowed it down I think, if it is not something that i can do myself then I will forsure give your buddy a chance. I would much rather support the little guy then the stealership. Thanks for the connection

I second that recommend and you can also mention mine and Richards name we both know Micah and work for him occasionally. How did you come to know him Daryl?

I met Micah in 2004. My uncle is good friends with his family back in NB, and put me in touch with him for an out of province on my Ranger. Been hanging out with him ever since.
The only shop I will trust with my Tacoma if it isn't warranty work.
