What's your intentions with your truck... how much street vs offroad will you be doing?
Will you be driving on icy roads in the winter?

i will have to make the trek between Cranbrook and Calgary a few times in the dead of winter.
if i had to take an estimate i would say 80/20 to 75/25 onroad/offroad if i stay in calgary .... even more street if i move back to vancouver 90/10.
how much to sipe the MT's?

Siping is pretty cheap. Varies by store. I would say though that if you end up moving back to Vancouver it is by far more economical to buy the tires in the states. As long as the dollar stays even remotely close that is.
The deal is even better if you get them installed down there. No duty, no GST, no PST ... and if the border asks about the new tires (which they won't), you blew two tires going on a back road and had to replace all four. At that point it's like getting gas.

just an FYI. if you have car work done and you are deemed to have improved the value of the car or have car parts replaced/auto work done, you have to pay duty on the ENTIRE amount of the vehicle.
i am considering making a trip down to montana (having all my stuff shipped there), but after you consider exchange / duty / gst it works out pretty close to buying local

Sounds like you might be better off with the A/T's. Depending if Firestone will honor the warranty if you sip the M/T. M/T's in the ice are deadly as there's no way for the water molecules to be moved away from the ice and the tire creating a really slippery mixture.
I'm not sure on the price of the Mickey Thompson ATZ's but they are a good combination of both those tires.

Well ... its worked for me when I've done it. Last september I saved about 40%. Tires are consumables, not upgrades.

i re-read the website:
If you intend to have repairs or alterations made to your vehicle/vessel/aircraft outside Canada, check with the CBSA for information before you leave. Under customs legislation, the CBSA can no longer consider your vehicle, vessel or aircraft to be Canadian-made if you increase its value, improve its condition or have it modified outside Canada. As a result, you may have to pay duty and the goods and services tax (GST) or harmonized sales tax (HST) on the entire value of the vehicle/vessel/ aircraft when you bring it back.
Duty will not apply to the value of the repairs or alterations made to your vehicle/vessel/aircraft in the United States, Mexico, Chile, Costa Rica, Israel or another Canada-Israel Free Trade Agreement beneficiary when it is re-imported into Canada; however, the GST/HST will apply.

Dueller At Revos - 31x10.5x15 = 1100 including GST
BFG At KO - 33x10.5x15 = 670 no tax & siping included
As an Alberta resident you can request not to pay Washington state tax. You simply fill out a form. Granted this was when the dollar was at par as well.
I went down to Washington with my old Duellers on the truck. I just drove back across the border with the new tires installed and was never asked any questions. As per a conversation I had with a border patrol person on a previous trip I knew that, if asked about the tires, I would simply state that the tires needed to be replaced while I was in the states.
The border patrol person I spoke with explained it this way. If you are going down to the states with the intention of getting work done ... you will be charged duty if applicable and GST/PST. However if you are in need of a repair while in the US (for instance if you were on a road trip and blew out 2 tires) then that is taken into consideration. It would be at the discretion of the border patrol. They may charge you GST on all 4 tires, just the 2 you didn't need or none of them (the most likely scenario). By all means claim the tires (I wouldn't unless asked) but if you are in the states for anymore than 2 days they will, most likely, not care at all.

I have the Firestone Destination M/Ts and Moto Metal 957s and I can't get an alignment with that combo because there is not enough space between the tire and the rim to put the alignment heads on the wheels if you can believe that. Good thing I still have the stock wheels.

man i saw those tires today for the first time today and really like them BUT, i currently have BFG TA KO's in my living room. They are looking for a home on my truck, but i need a lift. The lift i was originally going for ran into a snag. The tires taunt me every day i get home from work.

They're not out yet. When I talked to Shane from National he said probably October November he could get them in.
Sexy tires though.
