Well I didn't lie when I siad that this was going to be a moderate to difficult technical run. And that if you weren't careful body damage was quiet possible. Seen just about everything for terrain with minimal mud which is good, but what little mud we did see proved to be a huge challenge to get threw. And then we almost lost DocMcoy's truck and had to do a very intersting recovery. Most interesting recovery I have ever done. Lucky David's bumper caught the edge or he wouldn't have a truck anymore.

Damage Toll for the day.

Canadian Bum
-some new pin striping rear RH tail light from having an attraction to a tree in a super tight section.

BeachBoy
-Big scratch on LH front door
-one flat LH front tire because his valve stem got ripped off in a trench.

Grand prize goes to DocMcoy
-Dent in extended cab side panel on LH side
-Dent in LH front fender
-Half ripped off skid plate under IFS
-One ripped off rubber thing on the RH side of the front bumper during the proccess of it holding his truck up.
-New driverside seat cause the smell is never coming out (haha just kidding... but seriously lucky)

I hope that I didn't scare you guys off with the almost unclimable hills the washouts that could swallow a truck and the small section of mud that was the biggest PITA. But even with all that it was one of the best runs I have ever been on. Hope you guys can come out again.

Pictures are loading on photobucket as I write this.

And the truck we almost lost. Thats all I got but I am sure BeachBoy has more pics I had to run my truck so that Doc's truck didn't go tumbling down a very steep long hill.

hey Doc I thought you were gonna get less rammy with things???
Nice work.

Lol ... that was me being gentle. I was going up the hill at a slow normal pace. I thought I was following the same line as the second gen tacos ahead of me. I started losing traction and was not sure why. I backed up really slowly to get a better line and my whole front end fell into the washout. The guys ahead of me had no idea how bad this was when they drove over it.

I think Etienne has some photos looking down the cliff. Gives you a bit better idea how royally ( sp? ) screwed I was.

No problem we weren't going to leave you hanging over the edge and just keep going on... Paul couldn't get by you we had to get you out of the way haha. I'm still really surprised how well our set up worked.

I hate being in the way.

Despite almost getting my ass killed, it was still a lot of fun and I can't wait to get back out there.

Glad you had fun, I wanted this to be an exciting run that challenged both driver and vehicle and I think this trail was a good mix of that. The start was nice and easy but then after that there really wasn't any part where you were waiting for the next obsticle.

Tarzan

Damn that looks like fun. I can't wait till August when we get to try this ourselves. Do you have coordinates for this trail? Intersted in leading us Aug 15th? Usually when I pull that kind of stunt people climb on my uphill side to keep me stable till things are under control. I try not to get in that situation but somehow it happens more often than I care for.

canadian bum
06-21-2009, 12:14 PM
Haha I doubt you have been in this situation. His passenger side front tire was suspended in the air and the only thing keeping him upright was the fact that his bumper had smashed and wedged into the bank. If it wasn't for his bumper that truck would've been long gone. The other guys need to get there pics up because mine give this situation no justice. I don't give out trail information over the web. You'll just have to come out on the club run. Nathan and I are going to have to go over the details but I think he wants to do a 2 day thing. I will be leading that. But it is whenever the none beginner run is so I think near the end of the month. So hope to see you out there in your 4 runner should be a good time.

BeachBoy

it was really an insane run.

makes me want to try and get the stuff even faster on the truck (I am not even at 5k km on the truck).

I ripped the valve stem so I have to get a full size spare or make sure my repair kit can take care of this stuff. Because on a spare tire, you get zero traction in mud as your open front end diff is worth zero and the rear can easily spin in the mud.

I did the steepest hill climbs I've ever done and I'm sure everyone has ever done.

Oh and to top it off, we got pulled over driving back to Calgary.

I have hundred of pictures, will try to upload asap but I have to wash the truck to see the body damage first. It's the first time I see a place where the DC LB could almost not make it through and the others trucks could (tight in trees)

Just PM me the coordinates if you have them, agreed posting trail info online is not good. The Nissan club is holding Jamboree at RMH this year Aug 15th and we will be exploring the trails there. I have been up to baseline and one other trail in the RMH area and it looks like a great place to explore. I'm gone for the next two weeks to Moab, the Grand Canyon an Vegas so if there is a run in mid to late July I'm in.

BeachBoy
06-21-2009, 01:43 PM
there is a run late July, well late each month.

I will talk to Nathan about putting up the gps traces. We might make it available to members only.

Man, wish I could have made this one. Glad everyone made it out OK and the truck didn't go down Doc. I like the nwe bumper, John. How did you like the new locker?

And why did you get pulled over for Etienne? Speed or the truck being too dirty?

Doc McCoy
06-21-2009, 01:55 PM
Speeding ... tsk tsk ... the run lasted a little longer than we were expecting and the RCMP pulled us over trying to make it home in the same day.

Next time I will take you on this trail. The bumper already saved my truck I really like it. The locker as well but now I am tired of the All-terrains they just don't cut it.

And Tarzan, I am a little concerned with giving this trail out and making it public knowledge even within the club because I don't want any beginners to end up trapped out there because it is a very easy possibility on this trail and people can get lost very easily out there and its not exactly like Mclean where you always seem to run into someone. We only ran into people the first few KM's but after that there was no one. So I would rather lead people out there and not worry about it.

BeachBoy
06-21-2009, 06:56 PM
it's indeed a place where you want to have your stuff to sleep there. With heavy rain if you can't make it up one of the hills, there is no way out... same thing in the mud

Definitely a fun day, and yes, steepest hill's i've ever climbed in a truck!! Have to do it again sometime for sure. And now I need to make sure I have a full size spare on hand aswell, just in case.

Ok. I meant situation as in rolling over not dying, I have been way to close to putting the Runner on it's side or wheels up but never where life hangs in the balance. So is it not safe for our group in August to go out and explore the area? We are all very experienced, well equipped and intelligent but from your description the one thing that we lack is trail knowledge.

canadian bum
06-21-2009, 09:14 PM
Yeah knowledge of this particular trail is for sure a neccesity. There are lots of cut lines that branch off and it would only take a few wrong turns and going down the wrong hills and one could end up in a lot of trouble. I could lead your trail run in August as well if you would like. I have knowledge of a few trails and led the run to the top of the mountain when you came down about a year or so ago. We could also do the rest of the falls creek run. Depending on the group and what we have to work with as far as vehicle capability.

We will be in Prairie Creek group site Aug 14 to 16 hopefully we can hook up and I'll try and make the run in late July.

Well ... she was riding in the passenger seat at the time. All she had to do was bark. Her angle of my impending doom was much better than mine.

I knew I was in trouble but I didn't really start getting worried untill I gave the guys my phone "just in case", and no one said ... "Just keep it, you'll be fine".

I have some good pictures too, I don't usually get too many videos because of the time it requires to convert, edit, upload, etc. I'll get better and more efficient at it with time.

The pictures are slowly uploading, I had like 480 for Crowsnest and 180 for Fall Creek and at over 5mb each, it's taking forever.

By the way, my rear bumper is bent. it does the banana on the passenger side hehe

A fella needs to pull his bumpers and mirrors off and Line-X his whole truck to go offroading with you guys!

I do intend to get out there and join in the fun, maybe on a trail that won't cause too much carnage to my beautiful truck.

But right now, I'm having too much fun with my new baby boy. We hit some dirt roads on the outskirts of Calgary last weekend, put the little guy right to sleep. Maybe when he can hold his head up on his own, I'll take him out for a real trail ride.

Keep the pictures and videos coming!

that picture of John climbing, you can see that it's even steeper than what it shows, because the trees in the back are not vertical... And this was not the steepest part, it was the first climb
