well, im going to be in the market for shocks here pretty quick...

what would you guys recommend for a guy on a budget? like, im thinkin under 100$ per shock would be reasonable...

im looking for probably 14" of travel.

any suggestions?

ive looked at Ranchos, they seem decent. the bilstein's seem alright too... what others are there? how about used? does anyone have any good used shocks? is buying used shocks a good idea?

thanks guys!

bilstiens are the shock of choice for most people on a budget. you will probably have to go for the 5150 series.

I've got a pair, but I think they are only 12". I used them for one month. I think they are Skyjackers or Sky something. Got loops on both ends that takes a 3/4" pin or bolt. I think I only paid something like $120 bucks for them new, so definately a budget shock. Let me know, I can throw them on the hound for you.

do you know the compressed and extended lengths of them? 12 would probably even work. ill just make some limiting straps until i can save up and get some longtravel shocks :)

what would you want for them?

was lookin at the 5150's, ive heard they leak alot though... i was lookin at the rancho 9012's and they seem to be the best shocks so far, as you can mount them up or down... the 9xxx series seem to be a better shock, the 5xxx series (ive read) are more stiff and not as smooth...

only thing is i have no idea how much the 9012's cost haha. i cant find a price anywhere...

I'll get you the exact lenghts and a pic, but I think they are about 22" and 34". Probably $25 for both plus shipping.

how much do you think shipping would be? that sucks that i dont live in alberta anymore haha, i could just meet you somewhere. though, my brother will be in alberta mid august... if i can wait that long, i could just have him meet you somewhere...

That would work, but I doubt shipping with the hound would be much more than 15 buks - your choise.

OK, so these are called Superlift shocks. I knew it was something with an S and they are indeed 14" travel shocks. 35" extended and 21" compressed.

the 5125 series and 5150 series, they are probably some of the most popular shocks on the market today for guys looking to get budget shocks.

most people love the valving but i have heard some guys complain about being to quick on the rebound damping.

too quick wouldnt be a big deal to me... too slow would suck...
leaking would really suck.

i might pick up a set of ranchos if they're affordable to me... eyeballin the 9012's :)
