If you go the Blazeland route, there is an options package which allows you to run coil overs.

I think it mounts to the forward ( In regards to the truck ) side of the lower "A" arm. I'm not sure how i feel about it though, as the geometry would get all screwy when the shock moves up and that angle increases ??

hmm, i dont think it would.. i think there is still torsion bars there thoe

I should have looked closer, but i agree. They are still running torsion bars, but i don't see a need for them after having coil overs installed??

I agree, but i don't see any other way of mounting it. Not with factory a arms anyways..

That setup in my eyes looks perfectly fine, haha for example look at your r/c trucks the shocks are at a totally different angle from the steering knukkle. Bad example I know hahaha also notice the angles on your MTB.

very true

I think the problem is the strain it will put on the lower shock mount, because not only is it moving up and down, also twisting as the suspension is undergoing compression

nah i think it's alright because look at where the torson bar is located it's located on the upper arm it's at one end of the mounts and held in by bolts, the lower arm is fully boxed, also there also isn't that much force acting on those points because technically the truck is floating on the suspension usually equal distance up and down now if you were to say jump the truck then the suspension might be stressed a bit more but not enough to have anything catastrophic happen ... ps did anyone else notice in those pictures that the torson bar was still attached ?

You'd have to run new or better T-bars if you were to keep them. You gain more leverage with long travel, which means it'd be like riding on old/saggy springs.
Have you checked out Total Chaos's kits? Do they still run T-bars?

They do. And they don't.
This one deletes 'em.

The Gen 2 kit for 86 to 95s ... deletes the torsion bars and is totally pimp. Also a little on the pricey side. Almost 2 large and you still haven't bought the coilovers, upper shockmount or the new t100 axles yet. Only place online I found it is here (http://www.socalsupertrucks.com/productdetails.jsp?pointer=407&subcatpointer=104&make=TOY&model=4RU&year=1987&drive=4WD)
Off road racing and recreation performance parts have progressed with technology over the past decade. After witnessing the original Caddy kit log mile after brutal mile of trail punishment on our test vehicles, we figured it was time to redevelop the Caddy kit and incorporate some new features that were previously unavailable. We kept the bolt on application and immediately addressed torsion bar performance limitations. We eliminated them completely. This system includes modified upper and lower control arms to incorporate a coil over shock conversion while retaining working 4wd. T100 axles are still installed with this long travel kit and T100 vehicles require our custom extended 300M axles to retain the 4wd system. Overall track width still increases 6.5". The lower arms maintained the original chromoly tubular design and bottom skid plate, but now we’ve added dual shock tabs to the arms which makes the Gen 2 Caddy kit stand apart from other brands. This option allows you to further customize your suspension system for individual needs and applications. The shock combinations possible allow you to install a secondary 2.0, 2.5 non-coil over or 2.5 bypass shock and achieve the most diverse and tunable IFS performance suspension system available. The upper control arms are all 4130 chromoly tubing, and feature 1" Teflon lined uniball’s instead of factory ball joints and still bolt to the factory control arm location. Drilling the spindle to a 3/4" hole is necessary. TC offers a weld on upper shock hoop, and several other accessories available to upgrade the 86-95 trucks OEM weak links. This kit includes all F911 hardware, heat treated hi-misalignment spacers, 1” Teflon lined uniball’s, D.O.T. brake lines, urethane bushings and inner sleeves, weld on droop stop mounts and tie rod extensions. 8" or 10" travel 2.5 coil over shocks can be installed. 8" travel shocks are required to install our shock hoop accessory.

But that's not longer stock toyota IFS = improvement.
SAS is the cheaper option. It's even cheaper if you have someone to weld it for a case of beer.
Remember, SAS kit (w/ lift), rear lift, longfields, axle (if you don't have one anymore), gussets, install (if you don't have a welder), I ran a quick total from various vendors and a guess on install, I got $3700 all said and done.

Yeah no ifs vs sas here.. i was just asking if anyone had any ideas or seen any builds with 1st gen 4runners with ifs turned into long travel without torsionbars.... i think lt will be perfect for my truck and a bit less rare then a sas'd truck.
