It's getting harder and harder to find good OEM alternators and regulators for the old girl. Has anyone done an upgrade with a GM alternator?

I just got a 140amp alt from the junkyard for $20
took it to amperagetech new bearings, brushes, regulater and they put a V pulley on $180
powermaster alts are junk.
so for $200 for a 140 amp alt is awsome. like brand new.
i just made some brackets to fit onto my 22RE
And i moved it to the otherside of the engine. way more room.

This is exactly what I'm looking for! Thank you calltrex!
Did you have an external regulator or internal regulator on your Toyota previously?
Did you have to splice in the GM connector to connect to the alternator?

GM alternators are 1 wire hookup - straight to the battery (ok preferably a big honkin fuse in there too). That's all it takes... Toyota wiring becomes defunct at that point.

ya i put a AN fuse on the cable to my battery. i just cut the plug in connector when i took the alt.
1 cable to battery and 1 wire from the connector to switched power.
as extra i put a diode on the wire so theres no chance of backfeeding power.
