Hope i am posting this in the proper section, here it goes.
I am wanting to put an e locker into my rear diff in my 2nd gen 4 runner.
Anyone know if the e locker in 05+ Tacomas are the same as the 1st gen Tacomas e lockers?
My diff will get upgraded to 4.88 when i do this..for the 33's
Any help would be great. I've tried finding out info on google, but had no luck on weather or not they're the same lockers.

i believe the diff itself will fit, the e-locker diff is an 8 inch, though i don't know if the axles will fit maybe different spline count and or axle diameter ? and what is involved in making the e-locker work, i believe you'd need the full wire harness for the e-locker.

Yes, the diff should fit if you have a 4 cylinder, but you will need to modify your axle housing by grinding out a notch for the fork and by drilling more holes for the diff studs. This is not hard at all - you just need to buy the diff gasket and use it as a template for the grinding and drilling. Many people including myself has retrofitted e-lockers. (search for retrofit e-locker). As far as I know all of the rear E-lockers from Taco's, FJ cruisers, 4Runners are physically interchangeable. You just cannot swap out the whole axle without some moderate modification because the Taco has leafs and the 4Runner has coils, etc.
None of the E-lockers will fit into an open V6 diff as far as I know.

It will fit a V6 open rear diff. with above mentioned mods to housing. If your old gear set is 4.56 I'll take them off your hands as my rear diff is howling like mad and it's time to put an elocker in mine as well (I have the elocker just need gears).

Thanks.
I'll check which gears i have when i get the locker and do the install. I think they're 4.10s though, but, i could be wrong.

OK, I was thinking about the new Taco and 4Runner V6's.

Hi Winch, the locker is from an 06 Taco and not a pre 05 Taco and my truck is a 95 V6. Does that mean it won't work?

Someone else can confirm, but as far as I know, that would work. I know you cannot put an E-locker diff in any of the post 1996 V6 open housings, but pre 1995 should be good for either the 4 cyl or V6 (with some minor mods to the housing).
Sounds like Tarzan already knows it would work, since he is doing the same thing.
