So last night I was driving along Glenmore on my way home from work. And some dumb a$$ rear ended my Surf.
Nobody was injured. Lots of vehicle damage to his Dodge Van. My tailgate is bashed in pretty good and a minor chip out of a taillight. The Marlin Crawler rear bumper recieved no damage at all, just a monor scratch on the Canadian tire rocker gaurd. That bumper totaly saved my truck. The guy hit me so hard that the back wheels came off the ground. Poor little Surf would have ended up at the wrecker. Thanks Marlin!
From the pic it does not look to bad. Only issue was the window would not go up and down, and it's fairly hard to open and close the tailgate now. So I think its best to replace it rather then get the dent pulled out and repainted. I want it to work properly. I pushed some of the dent out from inside with a 2x4 so I could get the window up
anyway.. If i take it in to toyota is it a big deal to get a quote for the tailgate install and paint? And any Toyota better then the others for this sort of thing?

Wow man. Good to hear that everyone is okay.
Another thing making me want a Marlin bumper. I think Toyota is usually good for stuff like that i got a new rear window in my truck from them and they had no prob with that.

Front bumper saved my ass.
I think a rear would be a nice addition...

Good to hear your vehicle fared well.
You really need to find another 'U' from the chrome SURF on the right and put it on the far left...
Just saying.

Good to hear everyone is okay. From the force of the impact, you may want to see that the frame wasn't tweaked. Marlin's bumper transfers all of the impact energy right into the frame if I'm not mistaken.

Hey Dave,
Sorry to hear about your incident. You're more than welcome to bring down to Stampede for a quote. However, a bodyshop may be a better route as they may find other damage that's underlying etc etc. I strongly suggest you speak to Jeff Lange in our parts department because he has a JDM parts catalogue that will help quite a bit for the bits and pieces of your tailgate.

I SAW THAT! You were right past crowchild going westbound on glenmore, around 4 yesterday?
You have a GORGEOUS truck. I was with my dad otherwise i would have stopped and made sure everyone was okay..
Aha, i totally called that it was a forum member. He must have caught you pretty hard, from what i saw it was a serious dent! Good thing for the marlin bumper!

Oem parts usually are.
If it were me, i would take all the badging off your current tailgate, and replace it with one of these: http://www.toyotafiberglass.com/4runner.htm
I believe it will fit.

I sent them an email to confirm, but i believe it is a complete new tailgate, save for hardware??!
:( i hope you're wrong though, because i'd like to go that route in the future

well i got my truck back last night. I am very happy with the job Heninger did.
The only difference we found between the JDM tailgate and the NA gate, is the emblem. Mine was 3m taped to the side, the NA emblem goes in the middle with pins.
So now I will need to find and emblem for it to fill the holes in the new gate
