Hey guys, I got a question that I know one of you guys out there can answer.... When I had the front of my truck jacked up the other say and was putting my front wheels back on I noticed some play in the drivers side front wheel. At first I thought the lugs just werent tightened all the way and that the wheel was just wobbling on the hub. After tightening the lugs properly, the play was still there. The play is only top to bottom, not side to side. Also you cant feel the play by rocking the wheel when its on the ground but only when its lifted off the gorund. Once its jacked up, if I push inward on the top of the tire, I can feel the play.... What is my problem? I at first thought it was either an upper or lower ball joint, but now Im thinking it could be wheel bearings. Someone please help me confirm before I go get the parts! Thanks

it was just a loose wheel bearing. torqued to spec an good to go.

Your wheel bearings probably need to be repacked. While you're here, now is the time to check the pad life of your brakes because NOW would be the time to replace them if you're repacking the bearings. (Brakes have to come off anywhoo).

Get yourself a tub of MP (Multi Purpose grease), new hub seals and go to town on it. You're going to need some specs for preloading the bearings as well so don't forget that. (The big giant nut with the bendable tab lockwasher).

I recently replaced my rotors and pads and I just must not have torqued the wheel bearings down properly as they were finger loose when I pulled the hubs off.... (probably worked loose with all the thrashing from last weekend lol)

So with Matts help it was re-torqued, as he said, and now its good to go. Thanks!
