Hutchinson P/N WA-0567
Size 17 x 8.5”
Bolt pattern 6H – 139.7 mm BCD
Lug style M12 shank nut (hub piloted)
Hub bore diameter 4.18” (106.2 mm)
SAE rated load 2,750 lbs. - 60 psi
Backspacing 4.51” (114.3 mm)

I'm really liking Freeze's new rims so I want to get a quote. I'm looking at 35x17x8.5. I don't understand the backspacing stuff so I need to know what rims will fit a 2008 Fj Cruiser Trail Teams Edition ("C" package). The above specs are quoted for a Toyota, no type of vehicle.

That's the one! This fits FJ Cruiser and Tacoma. This has a 4.51" backspace.

Which is measured from the wheel hub face to the inside rim.

Like this:

Except his right angle should be on the lip

I was given $363 a wheel as a price + Shipping. I think I got a deal because I was a little messed over by Hutchinson.

So far I've been given $429/wheel USD. Shipping and handling is $100-150 for 5 wheels if your in the lower 48. Probably more for international shipping. I was also told Hutchinson ships every 2 weeks.

Thanks Nathan for that picture. People have tried to explain to me (thanks everyone) about backspace but I just didn't get it...until your picture. Is the color of your rims argent?

Why is backspacing important? I would think, referring to Nathans' picture, the distance between the end of the tape to where the spokes begin would be important.

I can't remember where I stumbled upon this calculatron but it's handy

Smaller the number equates to the wheel stickes out further. Bigger the number the wheel is more inboard. But not to be confused with offset as this is a metric way to measure the same thing in a very different way.

How would one find the numbers on stock trd rims for an fj cruiser trail teams edition? The reason I'm asking this questions is because I had ordered, a while back, some metal pro comp wheels for my fj and when my installer went to put them on they were rubbing on the brake caliper. But they were SUPPOSED :-( to fit an fj. I don't want to give the wrong info if I order hutchinsons because if I get rims that are supposed to fit an fj and don't fit mine I'm going to be an unhappy fella. I don't know all the info on the botched fj rims from pro comp...maybe they sent the wrong rims. I've read that there's an "x-factor"-unknown involved in choosing tires. Which means some Toyota specific 17" rims will fit and some won't.

5" backspacing for the TRD FJ Cruiser TT wheel.

So any number greater than 5" will fit. Or is it less? Or am I missing something.

Yes. Less means it will be further out from the hub. But. If you go with a wider tire, then you'd definitely want to go with a lower number back spacing.

So does backspacing have anything to do with rims clearing the caliper? I'm getting more confused as the night goes on. What are the size of tires you have on your tacoma Nathan?

Rim size is what determins caliper clearence. B/S is what provides upper control arm and spindle clearence.

Without knowing all the details, can you hazard a guess as to why the pro comp metals didn't fit when they were ordered for an FJ Cruiser??

Rim size is what determins caliper clearence. B/S is what provides upper control arm and spindle clearence.

So based on this info, the rims were not clearing the brake calipers because they were the wrong rim size.

As we've discussed before, pro-comp in that model has had issues with it clearing the new Tacoma and FJ caliper. Some people have shaved the caliper to make it work but this really isn't a good idea. Not all wheels are the same interior diameter in the same size wheel.

16's fit your calipers but it also depends on the interior diameter of the wheel. Thicker casting will interfere but just milimeters.

Brake caliper clearance also does not always refer to the brake caliper scraping the barrel of the wheel. Some time the front of the caliper (facing out from the vehicle) will hit the spokes of the wheel. I believe this is your issue with the ProComp wheels...it wouldn't matter if they were 22" diameter wheels.

All the new Toyota/Lexus 6bolt it seems are hard with issue. The brake caliper just sit sits out from the mounting hub/wheel mounting face...it's even a concern with my 2001 Taco and the reason I didn't get 15" beadlocks 4 months ago.

if you're curious as to what they look like on an FJ, here you go.

Thanks for all the replies. I don't remember discussing the pro comp issues. But it never hurts to be reminded. Now I understand why its important to do some research first, wait a little bit and then make the purchase. Now that FJ is amazing. What size are the tires and rims?

The rock monster's for our gen trucks aside from the Tundra come in 17". Those were 315's if I remember correctly from the show.

I've seen 'em on that Nathan Hayashi's truck and they look like someone took some fecal matter and rolled 'em into a wheel. Don't forget that the caps all say "Rock Monster" on them. Garbage!

Oh hey freeze! Didn't see you there!

Doc, your sense of humour is quite amazing. So witty. You make me laugh even when I don't want too. The world needs more of your dry humour!!!
I'm getting a quote from hutchinson. They want to know manufacturer, brand and tire size so they can size the beadlock. This is what I gave them Mickey Thompson MTZ/ATZ 35x12.5x17. Hope these numbers are right.

Well, I've taken the plunge and ordered 5 hutchinson rims. Lead time is 2 weeks and delivery via FedEx is 5 days. They should be here by June 1 at the latest. Fingers crossed.

And thanks goes out to our fearless, and I mean fearless :-), leader Mr Freeze. Who blazed a path over a period of 12 months with Hutchinson, so that we all, yes we all, might have our Hutchinson rims in less than 3 weeks. I am honoured and humbled in your presence:-) Thanks.
