So, over the last few weeks I received all the things I needed to make some of the first performance enhancing mods to my FJ. An ICON Stage 1 kit, OEM Steel rims and 285/75R17 Toyo M/T's. I'm really happy with the tires that I picked because they are taller and a little skinnier. Here's a few pics for your enjoyment.
Out with the old.

In with the new.

Difference in the front coil-overs. These ICON's are a thing of beauty.

Took it out to test everything. The suspension is incredible. So happy I paid the extra money and picked these up.

It's gotten me so excited for summertime and can't wait to start camping. Well, thanks for checking out my rig and i'll have to start a build thread once I get a bit more done.

Haha thanks! Yeah, I either spend money on my FJ or my camera collection.
Question for anyone who has a newer toyota and put on larger wheels. Now that obviously the speedometer and odometer are off, is there an easy way to get it adjusted to be correct? Or should I just take it into my dealership? If so, what do they usually charge for something like that?

I asked my dealer the same thing. They said the ECU is a sealed unit. Which means it can't be adjusted. Having said that I'm sure there are ways to "play" with the circuit board if your'e willing to take the monetary risk. What I did was buy a OBDII code reader that allows me to plug into the OBDII port, adjust for different tire size, and then display the new speed; amongst alot of other things e.g. like reading codes and then clearing them. I leave it plugged in all the time. It doesn't help with the odometer I'm afraid.
What type of rims do you have?

Really? Oh that's no fun. I know that I could easily figure out my real odometer specs because I know when the tires went on and it would be a pretty easy equation of to find out the added distance I actually go per kilometer. The rims I got are just Toyota OEM take offs, brand new obviously. I really like the look of them, they're tough and would be cheap(er) to replace if need be.

My speedo shows about 4km/h slower then the GPS calculates on mine. I have 285/70/17 so just about 33". I just keep that in mind and dont worry about getting the speedo recalibrated. But I know here in Calgary Mr. Speedometer in the NE can recalibrate the speedo.

I wonder how they recalibrate the speedometer? Could it be the dealers just don't want you tampering with the ECU? I was told there is nothing on the ECU to connect to too adjust the speedometer? I'm wondering if Mr Speedometer has a warranty for their work? I'm also wondering if you tamper with the ECU if it could void the warranty.
The rims look good. They have a smart, rugged look to them.

David!! Has hell frozen over?? R U finally online? LOL!! I say take your speedo out and pull the needle off and tweek it back a bit. Thats what happen to my speedo when I did the LED conversion, now its 3-5KM slower from original.

Hahaha, that simple huh. Well as for right now if i'm driving at 90km/h on the speedo i'm ACTUALLY doing about 97-98 km/h. I looked into it on the FJCruiserforums.com and it seems like the dealership won't do it but you can purchase some other box to tap into the ECU? I know I don't feel comfortable doing it that way though. Apparently even if I change the speedo electronically, the odometer will never be right... So i've read.

The Fj looks great. I also did the same a Tent when i put my lift on and larger tires. Scan Guage II is the code reader with all milage and tire calculations, works good.

There is a piggy back mod to recalibrate your speedo , I belive it's made by hypertech.
However it only works in 4km/h increments. Funny Im running 265 /75 / 17 and according to my gps and speedo im only out 3 km/h @ 110km/h ?
Btw <3 your truck black cherry Fj's ftw
