Here's what showed up in our shop this morning, had to take it for a drive, it's deadly with the Diesel engine!!!

It's unfortunately not street legal in Canada but it was fun driving it around our yard.....they use these in underground mining.

Enjoy!

Arrrrg. That's awesome! Thanks for sharing the photos. There's a guy up north selling a bunch of the pickups. It's too bad they're not legal here.

That Truck as is, "fully loaded version" everything shy of leather and a sunroof is 31K CAD, the guy at the "dealership" said for about 10K you can retrofit the truck to Canadian Standards, air bags, bumpers, etc.

It might just have to be the next purchase because it's awesome!!! They have Series 79 pickup models too

Chaos - Going to guess you work for LRE? :)

LRE doesn't exist out here ---Ontario--- not that I know of anyways.

I work for Moran Mining & Tunnelling, we have pickup versions as well I'll post some pictures when I have them in the shop.

They're not road legal in Canada because of the bumpers and lack of airbags and some other small but fixable features.

My understanding is that in Canada, you are only allowed to import a vehichle from abroad if it is at least 15 years old. Anything newer (except US) would not registerable. From the pics, this truck looks newer.

Ahh, for some reason I had it in my head you were up in Fort Mchell... :) And one of those doors in the background looked like one I'd spent way too much time beating on... :D

Sweet little truck! I want!

The truck is brand new 2010 model had 427 kms on it.

They're imported for exclusive underground use but as a mining contractor I can use it on the road if I did the modifications to it because it is still used for underground. It's not common because after the retrofit with ROPS and other mining equipment for it to be "legally" for say Xstrata standards you wouldn't take it on the roads. But I've worked on other sites where we're the general contractor and we were using the land cruisers to go from town to underground because we didn't have to buy another truck and it was multi-purpose.

Not QUITE true. Anything newer is not allowed UNLESS it's on the approved importation list, which means there's a comparable vehicle sold in Canada. Then the vehicle needs to meet all Canadian safety standards. People usually import vehicles over 15 years old because after that, they just sort of ignore the whole "approved vehicle" thing, and allow you to bring in anything as long as it's safe. Plus, cars like skylines have no north american equivalent.

Most vehicles from USA are allowed in because they have an identical Canadian model, and USA and Canada's safety standards are so similar. There's not THAT much stopping you from importing a newer vehicle in from Japan, provided you can also get it in Canada.

Check out the government of Canada's website, they have a big list of all the cars you're allowed to import under 15 years.

Aren't those houred out. 427 km but how many hours. And aren't they locked into to lower gears for underground. I believe Enns Toyota in Sask ships to the mines in Alberta and I thought these were some of they things that were done to those trucks. I have heard that the driveline could be just about toast when they come out of the mine.
Just what I heard.

It's true that some of them are toast when they come out of the mines because well it's the harshest conditions on the planet, an underground canadian mine hahha

But no it isn't hour-ed out, it was brand new the one I took a picture of, it still had the new truck smell, plastic on all the components on the inside.

Here are some pics of the "pickup version" without box and the post results after we put some amour on the thing with a custom mine package box

I do enjoy pictures of those 79 series trucks.
Are they running the 1HZ? I didn't notice the hood scoop for the intercooler that the 1VD has.

Chaos

It's either the 1HZ or the 1HD engine they guys are working on the truck right now so i'll check it out later and there's a snorkel instead of a hood scoop

Here's some more pics of one that is in our shop right now, we're putting an 8 person enclosed box in the bed to act as a personnel carrier so they've chopped off the back end of the truck so they can extend the frame 10 inches.

But I took these pics this morning because of the tow hooks that are on the front they look rad.

I know I posted this in the Kijiji Section already but I think it applies here. Check out this Land Cruiser HZJ75 for sale in Vancouver!
