Which 80 Series Cruisers......

Which 80 series Landcruisers are equipped with the Front and Rear Diff locks? What years are more "equipped" with lockers?
HDJ81-Turbo diesel.....?
USDM Landcruiser 80 Series.....?
Lexus LX450..........?

What are things to look out for on these trucks? Obviously maintenance record if they're available!

I did a 3" lift on a 94 USDM a couple years ago. It had front rear and center locks. The only issue we had with the truck was low idle. Oh and really bad gas milage. that big inline 6 is thirsty. But there is a transfer case mod to disingage the front end, and help with milage. It was an awesome truck though. It got sold to some brat here. his first question was "can i slam this"

We had an LX 450 as well, it did not have the center lock, although I remember seeing somwhere it came with all the wiring installed

The US Land Cruiser models had the lockers front and rear as an option between '93-'97 only. Someone said that the diesels from Japan had them a bit earlier than '93, but I don't think so. As far as I know the Lexus is the same. Your best bet would be to search on I8mud.com.

I think I've seen the 7% number thrown around for how many USDM cruisers came with them in the available years. I would be suspiceous that the LX450 was more likely to have them, being a higher end truck.

I think that 7% figure is what I read as well. It's more about the condition of the truck you find than the lockers. If you can hold out for a nice one with lockers, great! If you are impatient like me, you can look for whatever low mileage rig with a good PM history you can find from a rust free state and buy it. Worry about the lockers later if you have to .. you can even retrofit OEM lockers if you wish to.

The scenery changes almost weekly .. as soon as you find the truck you want and buy it, the one you REALLY would have wanted comes up for sale two weeks later!!

I guess my real advice is that once you buy something, don't look at the "cruiser for sale" ads anymore!! :)

All LX450's sold in Canada came with lockers. 93-97 in the U.S. came with them, but as an option. JDM had them from 1990-1997 again as an option.
