Ha ha that is cool. Well, yes, just about everyone knows that an IFS truck will outperform a SA truck in absolutely every single category you can throw at it - rock crawling, mud bogging, highway driving, desert racing, snow, etc. But just about everyone also understand that you cannot do it for the same price. For most of us getting an IFS truck to perform as well as a SA truck would be completely cost prohibitive, but certainly can be done.
I threw 3500 bucks at my solid axle, and that includes the axle, the locker, the suspension and my labour. It obviously does not include the tires, the winch etc, but if you can built an IFS truck that can outperform mine (or any other similar SA truck) on the highway and off road for that amount, you will shock the world!
Yes, IFS will always outperform SA, but you cannot even remotely do it for the same price (remember most guys can do a SA swap for way less than me if they use American axles etc. :)

this is not really IFS with a standard config. i.e. upper arms, lower arms, CV, axles, etc.
but even with standard IFS' with VERY expensive parts you can get pretty good travel!

The Aqualu guys in Kelowna are all going down the IFS road in their Uber-Huge snow wheelers (U wanna wheel in snow...? They hit alpine meadows around/across from Apex!)
This was the only pic I could find online...but have seen others where the IFS travel is controllable via hydraulics/air. Sitting in a parking lot @ a standstill with one tire 25" off the ground! Reminds one of a dog and a fire hydrant. :)

Can4X4 also had that article a while back with a white FJ40 with the IFS set up for winter wheeling. It had full hydro or air suspension giving it the ability to do what the truck in the youtube vid could practically do. Really impressive set up.

I'm not about to start a IFS vs. SA debate, cause none of us have that much time, but you can't say IFS will always out performe a SA, it depends what type of "performance" you're looking for, regardless of money.
Anyway, heres a link to a wild IFS/IRS rig on pirate4x4, possibly one of the coolest "thinkin outside the box" vehicles i've ever seen.

Nice find keener!
Having hydro drive really takes care of CV angles. In theory, you'd really be able to tolerate any angle that the arms will allow!
I'm excited to see some video on how the drive system works. Looks like this fellow wants to put his creating in KOH which would be very interesting!
This is one incredible build!

I am curious does he list what motor the rig uses? The reason I ask is the one photo it looks like a straight six out of a 240, 260 or 280 Z.

Well ... if he wants to get into KOH he needs to have a running vehicle AND needs to qualify. The hardest course to qualify on is the "Last Chance Qualifier" also known as the Hammers course run in reverse. At this point in his build I think he should probably shoot for the Hammers in 2011.
As it stands we'll see if he's in tomorrow. The lineups for the LCQ and those who have already qualified for the main King of the Hammers event come out on the 12th.

I don't think the guy on Pirate was thinking crazy enough.
If you're gonna have hydraulic drive ... why not Chainlink it?

Two independent swing arms with up to 7' of wheel travel. Yeah ... I said SEVEN *expletive deleted* FEET.
