View Full Version : Does it sizzle? Block heater
Weird question...
Plugged in the truck for the first time ever this weekend and waited for the sizzle sound to know that it was plugged in correctly...no sizzle. Does it make noise when it is plugged in?

Mine don't make any noise. Still seems to work though.

Shouldn't have a sizzle, perhaps a slight electrical hum. But I've never plugged the Tacoma. I know from previous vehicles I can hear a slight electrical hum or buzz.

Your second generation Tacoma is equipped with a DRY block heater. Meaning that there is an oriface in the cylinder head that the block heater slides into.
The early Tacomas and 4Runners are equipped with a WET block heater meaning that it sizzles the engine coolant. And yes, I do hear a sizzle from my truck, eat your heart out newer Taco owners haha!

Only one I've ever heard sizzle is a Vdub - which is just a heater element glued (literally) to the oil pan.
My diesel makes gurgles (inline coolant heater) - that thing rawks! Start the truck up and it's always nice and toasty warm, ready to go...

Just bought one of those for my Vdub. Haven't installed it yet. Maybe tomorrow if it is warmer.
