View Full Version : 22RE... Supercharged?

I was eyeballing a previa this week; 2.4L supercharged engine... Looks Very similar to the 22RE but isn't...

Anyone ever tried to adapt one of these superchargers to a 22re - google didn't reveal much - but a twin roots screw setup that makes 161hp on a similar 2.4L engine... That's tempting :)

Don't suppose anyone's tried it? :)

Not that I know of. You can get a Camden supercharger for the 22r/e or one through LC Engineering with all the adapter plates for either a weber or...name escapes me. It's a little more than going direct because they sell the hardware as well.

Yep know of the camden and LC ones - but after eyeballing that previa's engine - thinking it's pretty darn close to a 22RE (albiet laid over). Might be easier to take one of them out of PYP and retrofit - and a whole lot cheaper than the commercial versions...

i saw on yt once a guy selling a supercharger that was for the 22re oem that came off a celica

There's a few (Maybe one or two) guys over on celica-gts.com running Supercharged 22R-E (Guess that makes it a 22R-ZE) motors in their Celicas. One guy has a screw type mounted right between the intake manifold, and the head. It looks factory, you almost can't tell it's SC'd

the name is holley nathan...
Me and my father are going to pick up the high boost supercharger from lc engineering for the '82 we got...and it comes with a holley 500 2 barrel carb and is set for 10 psi of boost......

Shoudl make for some good fun

Weiand made a Charger for the 22R WAAAY back. A friend of mine on the Island ran it on his '83, in combo with a 32x36 DGAV. This setup was installed on his rig in the mid 90's...and he picked it up used.
I believe the Toyota performance book (I brought it into one of the Intro Courses this summer) has a writeup on the same setup...
