Quick question; trying to sort out the wifes '90 4runner... Running into an idle issue I can't seem to figure out.
Idles ~2000rpm; every once in a while you can get it to kick down - to around 1000, but then it bounces back up usually right away.
Replaced the idle adjust screw & Oring, had a look for vacuum/air leaks - didn't see anything jumping out at me (yes highly scientific), Replaced the cold start valve with a known good one... No change.
Other issue is truly attrocious fuel mileage; she's not even getting 250km to a tank right now... Might have to do with a heavy right foot - but with the idle issue - thinking there's something more I need to look at...
Anyone have some thoughts/suggestions?

Figured this out today... Nothing to do with EFI; well not directly anyway...
Friday I was thinking - heater could be warmer... So I grabbed a new hotter thermostat...
Whaddya know - after installation, guage doesn't look any different, but the idle's come down to about 600rpm now (of course now it's almost too low... and I can't seem to get the idle screw to budge). Hate it when it's something easy you just don't think of... Guess I need to look at the temp sensor and guage here; something's not quite right in the mix there...

Yup, believe it was 190 - doesn't say on the box... Fixed the idle issue :) Heat output is great...

I'm on the skinny pedal alot with my truck. I've never gotten below 425km per tank.
Post it up on yotatech.com, those guys are pretty good at figuring out quirky problems like this.
How's the hotter thermostat on oil pressure? When my truck is hot (half way up the gauge), my idle drops pretty low (5w30) and my oil pressure drops.

Wife's driving so it'll be something I'll have to keep an eye on when I can... Looks like it did significantly better today on gas... We'll have to see at the end of the week where we sit...
Trucks got a new engine (charlesglen '05 - $8795 for the engine; not too many km's since (20-30k? memory fails at the moment)) - didn't notice any difference in oil pressure.
You might want to look at one of the 5w40's or 0w50's semisynthetic blends (vw'ers are the knowledgeable ones on those oils) I wouldn't want to see my oil pressure dropping with the 22RE's valvetrain being like it is...

Do the 22R/E Have a Fuel Regulator? It may have an impact on if it's running too lean/rich depending on the temperature outside.

finnaly fixed my nasty coolant leak today... i put the one bolt that owuldnt go into the timing chain cover when i did it, went in today.. didnt even have to use the tap.. weird eh. then while tightening the bolt i still notice a drip drip of antifreeze... i got my mirror and saw it was leaking from under the water pump(i knew i shoulda replaced it when i had it all out) anywho, out to the parts store and got a new waterpump and a oem tstat and gasket.. :D
ps. while "burping" teh coolant system is it normal for it to overflow/spill out a bit while letting it run with the rad cap off then get lower and fill it back up and repeat?

Yeah, it splashes around a little as it works the air bubbles out. Think, the air bubble heats up, expands, pushing coolant out the top. Funny your water pump was leaking. I did the timing chain on mine a month back (metal chain guides, woo), and had a nasty leak from my pump after all was said and done too. New gasket, and never had a problem.
For what it's worth, I've noticed that the OEM Toyota thermostats are a much higher quality than the el-cheapo store brands. Last time I changed it, I got the hottest they offered (88C), which was apparently standard issue for the 22R-TE.
