After seeing my new tires and wheels, my buddy thinks his truck looks too girly and needs some new tires.
He's got an 07 Tacoma, bone stock, what is the maximum tire size can he run on stock wheels?
Any size suggestions (stock or with new wheels)?
Thanks,
Stuwy

Currently I am running 265/65/17's and I had to remove the mud flaps due to a slight rub (cause the mud flaps stick into the wheel well on the front). My truck is bone stock in terms of ride height.

Isn't 265/65/R17 stock?

depends on the model... and I might be wrong on my current size... But I went from a 16 to a 17 inch rim, and kept the tire height the same so it might be a 70 or a 75. I will confirm tonight for ya

CalgaryRider is likely running 265/70/R17.
These are about equivalent in diameter to a 265/75/R16, which is the maximum size recommended for stock suspension and stock rims.
265/70/R16, 245/75/R16, 265/65/R17 are all stock sizes for the 2nd generation taco. All roughly alike in diameter.
If you run spacers or rims with more offset (approx 4.5" in backspacing), you could go to an even wider tire. Problem being, most 285mm wide tires are also ~33" in diameter, meaning you'll require at least a 3" lift to run them.

There's a link that will illustrate differences in diameter.
The short answer for your buddy is, without a lift, he is not going to fit tires much larger or wider. You can just add 5% to the sidewall aspect number. Even then, slight rubbing may occur, as CalgaryRider experienced.

265/75R16 on the stock rims for me when my truck was stock. Didn't rub the flaps either. My flaps however naturally left the truck while wheeling due to obsticles.

265/70r17 is probably the max size on the 17" sport rims without issues on the stock suspension. That's what I'm running for winter tires.
Keep in mind there can be a size variance between different tire manufacturers.

So after feeling like a bit of an idiot that I can't remember my tire size, I checked, and I am running 265/70/17s. Sorry for the confusion..
