I have a 1993 Toyota $Runner and was out wheeling this weekend and broke my Rear Sway Bar. I am wondering if i should replace or just leave it off? I have read on other forums that people have removed them. What would be the pro's and con's if any ? What is it's purpose and what do you all think ? Thank's in advance for any help .

It's meant to stop body roll when cornering. The 4Runner has a lot more weight higher up. If you like to take corners a little fast, you might be in for a surprise or a roll over. I'd recommend replacing it. Check out Pick and Pull, there's usually a couple 4runner's in there.

I have had my sway bars off for 2 years now. I disconnected the rear on purpose just for trail runs and then the link broke and after driving on the road with no serious affects I removed it completely. The front bar also kept breaking the links and after realising I had been driving with out the bar I removed it too. The front really does not help in wheeling but the rear does add alot more flex which may be why I seem to get thru tricky spots so well. On the road the Runner leans alot and knowing that I don't drive like it's a sports car. My Runner has larger tires, crappy acceleration and mediocre braking so I don't expect it to handle and drive accordingly. What I'm trying to say is if you are concerned about handling and performance leave the bars on but for wheeling loose the bars especially the rear on a Runner.

Not sure about the rear ... but I know a few companies sell quick disconnects for the front sway bar.

Wab Fab (http://www.wabfab.org/products/quickdiscos/19901995quickdiscos.htm) for instance.

Yuppers, there are quite a few that sell for the rear as well. I have some for my Pathy that clip to the frame when not in use. Most can be adapted to fit.

Or shell out some mula and get the Curries...
