Hi, just wondering how many km's one can expect from when the yellow light goes on on the gas gauge, ( v-6 access cab) I know on my old toyota the light went from a dull yellow to a brighter yellow and I could get another 100 km's

With the new truck I have driven about 60 km's with the light on and noticed I still had at least 20 litres in the tank when I made it to the gas station..

just wondering

thanks!

Of course you all know this I'm sure, but aside from the hassle of being stranded, you also don't want to run out of gas a lot because its horrible for your fuel pump. the gas lubricates / cools the pump.

I towed a trailer for ~ 30 km until I made it to Dinoland (Drumheller) with the gauge down to the pin almost. I wouldn't advise that again.

From other forums, the consensus is it comes on when you have 3.5-4 gallons left (say 16 liters) left.

I fill up when I get to 1/2 now.

Classic! I miss that show...

Now getting back on topic, why would you want to know how far you can go with your gas light on? Just curious. I try and keep my tank above half throughout the winter.

^^^ Yeah, I think that keeps water vapour out of the tank thus less icing up of fuel lines, right?

Well, that's was the thought years ago with older tanks and lines. With new vehicles, I don't think vapour in the tank is as much of a concern. But I like to err on the side of caution.

It's always good to know how much further you have to go for long trips. For instance, if you passed that "Next service station X kms" sign a ways back. Is it better to turn around or push on through. I've found that a good rule of thumb is 10% for most tanks. I've judged poorly before though. Luckily I carry a gas can for most longer trips.

Yes it's good to know how far you can go llike when you are climbing into Flagstaff in a howling thunderstorm towing your trailer and it turns out it's higher and farther than you calculated. I almost made it but coasting with a 7000lb trailer and a dead Avalanche is not something I would recommend. My family laughed themselves silly as I stalked off in the pouring rain (with thunder and lighting going off) to get a can of gas (it was within site but it seemed along walk). I can say I have coasted into a few gas stations in my younger days and I kinda felt like Kramer and the salesman. You know I could almost write a book about running out of gas like when I got a ride on a Harley to help his buddy then my vehicle. Hmmmm
