So...I'm a 'shopper'. Part of my auto-addiction is that I'm always looking for cars, researching, etc.
Sunday afternoons, I drive some of the Range roads in the foot hills looking for abandoned cars in fields...diamond in the rough, as it were.
I KNOW what I'm looking for....I've seen close donors....
Got me to thinking: we have a "what's yer other ride thread". I'd love to see a what's your Dream Ride! Pictures, stats, and what you would do with it.

Great thread Keith!
Well if money, time and space were no object. I would buy this and build it up into a true offroad monster.

I've always liked the idea of a 4x4 car. It would need a lot of work ... so let's say if my limited mechanical knowledge wasn't a limit either.
However, if you mean, "dream car". As in "pie in the sky" ... I'll take this ...

I think a European Spec 1984 HJ47 Land Cruiser would be my dream off road machine.
6o series axles, 12H-T and a H55F would make me happy.
Simple, reliable, tough and always ready for a beating. More intended for overland travel than actual off roading through Alberta bush.

Except since I need a work truck - it'll be a 47-54 chev/gmc 1ton pickup; likely go the 6.2 diesel route (about the simplest diesel ever made - even if its not a HP/torque monster...) Just like this one... Not sure on the flames though - flat black, normal ride height, custom bed for the tool boxes and to haul the camper (while keeping the hoist for those dump runs).

I spent many hours as a kid playing in the body, which sat in our garage untill this summer.
It is my dad's race car from the 60's. Unfortunatly I never got to see it go (other then in movies) He quit racing in 1969 2 years before I was born.

In all seriousness....I've only just begun. Wait till I hit the ADM, not to mention some koolness out of India, S. America, and S. Africa! I can only afford so much time in front of the internet (yeah, who's am I kidding, eh?)
Dave (other Dave)...Yeah, that was me too. Gare's (my dad) 1953 Ford Convertible was/is his replacement for the late 50's, 60's and 70's dragsters that he raced:
27 Model A with SB Chev
60 Corvette with 327/365 HP
46 Ford 4 door with inline 6 (wow, you raced that Dad?)
etc....
Your dad's car is a CLASSIC!
I grew up in the car show scene @ A&W drive-in's, and at Western Speedway on Sunday afternoons for bracket racing. :)
Stay tuned!

Bah...the Technology concept will ALWAYS be outdone by displacement in an internal combustion engine...if the build is right (under this discussion, not considering this technology, although by definition it is).
A 22cc 2 stroke will get killed by a 1000cc motorcycle engine...a 1.8L Honda 4-banger (tuned, naturally aspirated), will not match a 6.6L V8.
It's just physics.
Technology is an 'add-on' that helps in fine tuning. (ooo, this oughta start a great debate) To a degree, this holds true with Forced Induction as well...
In fact, some of the supreme engine builders make naturally aspirated motors that will 'outdo' forced induction. By this, I mean durability/reliability/consistency/predictability etc. It's been proven time and again.
Now...technology IS going to be the king of the heap when everything moves electric :)

http://www.nedra.com/
yes keith engine builders do build naturally aspirated motors to out do forced induction motors but those n/a motors have to be rebuilt way more often then the forced induction motors do....lol and here we go....:)
reg's supra which is a perfect example of technology being the only substitute for cubic inch's as his 1240 hp supra beats henessy vipers and calloway corvettes every year in the one lap of america and when the race is over reg drives his supra home and the big block n/a domestics roll on to a trailer where the motor is pulled and rebuilt before the next race, and reg has run the same mototr in that race for over 5 years now and was actually awarded for the fact that he is the only one to run the same car and motor that many years in a row......so i stick with my previous statement that technology will conquer cubic inch's in the technological days that we live in :)
and the debate starts,hahahahahahaha
and not to mention the fact that those big ass motors are usually pulling big ass heavy steel domestic scrap metal , lol
and as per your "it's just physics" statement, a 500hp civic will chew apart a ford mustang as the mustangs motor alone weighs 2-3 times as much as the 4 banger plus the car ways more then the import so weight to power ratio says that the heavier car has more chance of loosing and thats physics.....hehehe

There is one flaw with this:
a 500cc 2 Stroke is about equal to a 1000cc 4 Stroke in terms of power and torque. But not as reliable as the 4 Stroke.

Gach...I was hoping this would go unnoticed. :p Yeah, the effeciency of a 2 stroke over 4 is a LARGE exception. An 80cc 2 stroke is on par with a 200cc mini Thumper...actually, a bit more....assuming that the 2 stroke is 'on the pipe'.

Just not in Canada... (well, you can, just only on the track. Boo urns.)

How about:
Ford Frame and King Ranch Interior,
Cummins Turbo Diesel and Dodge Power Wagon axles and lockers,
Allison Transmission out of the Chevy's.
Exterior body of a Tundra.

Q - Can I register an Ariel Atom 3 for road use in my state or province?
Transport Canada does not consider the Ariel Atom 3 to be eligible for road registration within Canada.
There may be a way around that ...
Q - Can I Purchase the Ariel Atom 3 as a Kit Car?
A - A 'Roller Kit' option is available from TMI.
You could take the roller kit and attempt to make it fit the rules for Alberta. There is a process to make any home built car "road legal". At between 40 to 90 thousand yankee (does that even matter anymore) dollars, you'd probably have the funds to make that happen. Especially considering you'd be buying a car that could only safely be driven in Canada for maybe 3 to 4 months out of the year. Dream car for sure. I like it.

How about Dodge just gets around to making a Diesel Power Wagon? Lazy *expletive deleted* ...
King Ranch interior would be sweet though.

I'm thinking of switching. All I need is a winch, new rims, some armour and a CT4WDA sticker and I'm good to go!! :-)

Probably no cup holders either ... but look ... at the back there ...
... a place for all your books.
Cars shouldn't have cup holders..... and what are books?!

Well I guess Mercedes thinks you read a LOT. 'Cause they put the biggest *expletive deleted* bookshelf of all time on the back of that thing.
